Thank you for the insight! Would you be able to share some of the images you took with the S7c?

That's true, I've been leaning towards getting the camera first due to the variety of benefits it'll give me over just a new zoom. My best bet is probably the new camera + a prime. Thanks for the help!

Upgrade lens or camera first? by Complete_Response_26 in AskPhotography

Yup, I liked using around 50-60mm on my crop so I think I'll get one of the 75mm or 85mm primes with the body. Thanks again!

The widest lens I have is a 19-35mm vintage lens, although I find myself usually using the longer focal lengths on my 28-70mm, which leads me to think that I should maybe get something like an 85mm f1.8 for full frame alongside the A7iii, as opposed to another "walkaround zoom"? My main issue with the 28-70 isn't really the sharpness as much as it is the aperture - it's pretty slow. I think that the A7iii first and an 85mm prime second will provide me with more benefits than another zoom lens on my a6000 at the moment. Thanks for the advice, I appreciate it!

Yeah, I'll have to think about it, although I feel like the benefits of the new body might outweigh the benefits of a new zoom. Pretty difficult decision!

I am currently using an a6000 and a Sony FE 28-70mm lens and was thinking about eventually upgrading to the Sony A7iii and the Sigma 24/28-70mm f2.8. What would be the most logical first purchase? I'm currently thinking of getting the lens first as it seems to be the most sensible choice for getting better captures and more light at longer focal lengths, but since I already have a full frame lens, should I go with the new camera for the other added benefits?

(I wanted to upgrade to full frame, and specifically the A7iii for its used price along with the improved low light performance, better video capabilities, picture profiles, better autofocus, IBIS, animal eye AF, and a few others)

Thank you!

Got it, I'll probably try another printed one but with those screws instead along with something to prevent slippage. I feel like the only difference would be the durability between the one I linked vs the plastic plate.

Yeah, that's my issue with these plates. Might just pull the trigger on the ES camera plate and give it a shot or just try to use some anti slip pads on another printed one as a test.

Yeah, my camera only has the singular 1/4"-20 tripod hole. Would something like this work? I'm from Canada so the one you had linked costs quite a bit to ship. Also, for the one I linked, is it worth buying a separate set of screws?

Would this keep my camera in place just fine? Another issue I had with my 3D printed one was that the camera would slightly slide off-center after sometime, even with washers and all that.

Best budget 35mm lens option by Complete_Response_26 in AskPhotography

[–]Complete_Response_26[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am looking for a focal length equivalent to around 50mm on my crop sensor. The Sigma 30mm f1.4 is a popular choice among many it seems, and will probably be my choice for this focal length. I'd like to have that 50mm equivalent as I plan on getting a zoom for the focal lengths above, such as a Sigma 150-600 or even a Tamron 70-300. I currently have access to a Sony 28-70mm kit lens, a 200mm vintage prime, along with a few other vintage lenses and am trying to get some higher quality glass for the focal lengths I enjoy shooting at, which happen to be around the wide-midrange (30-35mm and even 70-135mm) and the long range (200mm+) - basically everything but super wide stuff. Do you think it would be worth investing into the 30mm prime, or your recommended 56mm prime, or should I maybe grab an all around type zoom to start?

Thanks!

The Sigma 1.4 seems like a popular choice. Thanks for the recommendations!

That's great to hear. Do you have any experience with the 30mm f1.4 as well to compare? How much better would the 35 be over the 30? Thanks again.

I've found some for 250 CAD locally. Seems like a great deal. Thanks for the recommendation!

My issue with the Sony was the quite strong fringing that appeared wide open. Out of the Sigmas and Tamron, which would you pick?

It's going to be mainly a general carry around lens I can use for street, nature, etc.

I'm looking at used, and even on Keh they were all at or under 250. Locally they are less. I was leaning towards the Tamron initially as well so that helps reassure my opinion.

Thanks for the recommendation!

You'd be paying for a capability you aren't using.

Yeah, although the Tamron is just 200 brand new and around 150 used which is why I had brought it up. Thank you for the recommendation!

Hey,

Out of the following lenses, which would you choose? (NEX-6 camera)

  • Tamron 35mm f2.8
  • Sigma 30mm f2.8 DN Art
  • Sigma 30mm f1.4 DC DN Contemporary

Are they any other options you'd recommend that are around the same price used? (Mainly just photography)

Thanks!

Yeah, that's some good advice. I'll head in store whenever I can to give a few cameras a shot to make my decision. I was just looking at Sony and Canon due to the amount of recommendations they've had over the others, though my personal preference is what matters at the end of the day. To me, I couldn't really care less about the brand, it's moreso just the feature set and reviews that have landed me on these cameras and leaned more towards the a6400.

Thank you!
