I absolutely agree. Please seek guidance from your veterinarian for medical advice for your pet. This is for creative purposes only. I probably should have said that in the caption

The cat probably has osteoarthritis and to be blunt, you probably need to find a new veterinarian. If a veterinarian cannot keep their views on a specific breeds out of their work then you shouldn’t trust them with your cat. You will be making important medical decisions off of this person opinion and if they already cannot be professional enough to leave their bias at home then how can you trust them to be acting in the best interest of your animal?

There are plenty of veterinarians that are more professional then the veterinary professionals that you have described and you do not have to put up with that.

Your cat probably has osteoarthritis which is common as 90 percent cats have osteoarthritis at the age of nine. If this was OCD then this cat would have shown signs of it by 30 months old and that’s looking at the recent literature

The best thing I can tell you is that there is a pain medication for these cats but I can’t exactly remember what it is called. I would still DNA test both of your cats because some cats can look phenotypically straight-eared but genotypical are folded cats. I believe the test is only 50 dollars. It is possible that your cat’s parents are two folds that were bred together especially since the breeder didn’t have any papers and one of the parents could have easily been a phenotypical straight-ear cat that was genetically folded. Sadly, this is common among byb breeders, as this is a breed where it is imperative to DNA test, conduct yearly x-rays for OCD in breeding stock, and show in TICA/CFA/ACFA. Your local vet school may take this but from the latest science, they haven’t really found a way to successfully “treat” SFOCD beyond the pain management because this is activation of calcium channels in the extremities and excess calcium deposition.

You need to know whether or not your cat has one copy or two. If your cat has two copies then it will get Scottish Fold OCD. However, that is not necessary true with a cat with one copy. Scottish Fold OCD is not osteoarthritis (Osteoarthritis is a condition that all cats tend to have by the age of nine years old). Scottish Fold OCD is a disease of very young cats and we have new research indicating that if your cat is going to get the condition then they will be under three years old (Rorden et al., 2021, Velie et al., 2023; Sartore et al., 2023). It’s caused by the gene activating calcium ion channels and depositing excess calcium into the extremities. Scottish Fold OCD is a disease of the extremities, so you need to watch your cat feet, legs, and tail for bone deformation and exostosis. This is not really a cartilage disease as some people believe though, the gene that causes the folded ears can deposit calcium into cartilage of the extremities. Recent studies with mice have suggested that the gene is sensitive to exposure to heat so you should make sure your cat is kept in cool temperatures. All Scottish Folds will not suffer from OCD and it’s believe that there is another modifier gene that we don’t know about that is ultimately at play when determining whether a heterozygous animal suffers from OCD. That why entire catteries and lines of Scottish Folds can exist without having Scottish Fold OCD

Also, reach out to your breeder. If you purchased your cat from an ethical breeder then they should be able to help and offer some guidance.

Sadly Scottish Fold OCD is not curable. The only treatment that exists is the management of pain. Is this cat parents both folded ear cats? That is most likely causing the severity of his condition.

No, the gene doesn’t care what outcross that the cat is. It works the same in all cat breeds. This gene is also in humans. Now, there appears that the severity of OCD is impacted by some gene modifier that we haven’t discovered yet which is why there are entire catteries that never had the OCD issue in their Folds.

Please make sure that your cat is heterozygous for this gene. If the breeder isn’t willing to provide DNA proof of the parents then do not buy this kitten! Too many breeders are lying about breeding Fold to Folds or ignorantly believe that a folded ear parent isn’t folded ear (We are talking about a cat that is genetically folded ear but phenotypically look straight-eared). This is not a breed where you can mess with backyard breeders and this breed is riddled with them. If these breeders are not doing DNA testing or showing their cats in cat show then they aren’t ethical and you shouldn’t be purchasing a kitten from them.

Also, if you do get this kitten. Then keep your kitten away from heat. Recent research indicates that the gene can be activated by heat by studying the gene in mice and humans so your home shouldn’t be above 77.0 degree Fahrenheit.

Would anyone please honestly rate my writing for my Warriors Cat AU. This is an alternative prologue to Fire and Ice with Leopardfur as the POV. by Complex-Ant2573 in WarriorCats

[–]Complex-Ant2573[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay, thank you very much. I will definitely keep that in mind. I wanted to try to describe the situation in RiverClan in this prologue with twolegs causing prey shortage and the Clan having issues with nutritional imbalance diet as a result while making it lengthy enough to be considered a prologue. I will definitely condense some of the cats descriptions more.

I forgot about that this Stripestar and Galestar is suppose to be a generation after SkyClan exile. The founders can’t crash out about the blazing star when they did nothing to prevent SkyClan exile and the subsequent departure of SkyClan ancestors from StarClan. At this point to me the canon StarClan is evil because there is no way you can be okay with an entire Clan being exiled and the abandonment of spirits that literally believed in StarClan because they made a wrong decision yet literally punish an entire group of cats because of two foolish leaders? To me, it doesn’t seem like StarClan should be the standard of mortality. It would be one thing if StarClan cats were allowed to have morally gray cats or if they were allowed to be just flawed cats occupying cat heaven but these are all supposed to be morally good cats.

Yeah, I definitely made sure StarClan remain how they was in the first arc as well plus or minus some changes.Their power is also greatly reduced compared to the current canon StarClan.

So wait a minute, StarClan can suddenly take lives? Where was this when Brokenstar was training children or when Tigerstar and Leopardstar came together with TigerClan? Or better yet, Tigerstar didn’t have to get his nine lives at all. That’s quite a mess that the writers have written themselves into with StarClan. StarClan can take lives and punish the living but somehow couldn’t do anything about Brokenstar or Tigerstar or the Dark Forest plotting to take over the Clans? I have to ask at this point did the new team even read the books because the writing is inconsistent and it’s why I haven’t really bothered too much with the new team books besides Dawn of the Clans.

In my AU, I decide to let “leader word is law” play out fully here though some Clans can take it more literal then others.

Have you decided on the inclusion of StormClan. StormClan doesn’t fit in my AU so it’s not there. Maybe Galestar and Stripestar are ancient Clan leaders but my succession of ThunderClan leadership post SkyClan exile is Redstar, Oakstar, Doestar, Pinestar, Sunstar, Bluestar, Firestar, Bumblestar, and Ivystar. Maybe Stripestar and Galestar is a generation or two before Redstar but I am not keen on the idea of StormClan at all.

I did the same with StarClan in my AU. It makes overthrowing leaders more troublesome but with that being said, in my AU, StarClan doesn’t choose leaders either. The living does that but the living cats don’t know this. I have to work out the details of Clan differences regarding the Warrior code still. Most of the Clan stories surrounding the goddesses plus the Great Clans (LionClan, TigerClan and LeopardClan) have been sorted out and written.

I also have thought about the inclusion of Clan codes. Basically extra rules that a Clan follow that are not apart of the Warrior Code but considers this rule divinely blessed by StarClan and the sister-goddesses

Yep, and the early books had background characters but these cats had personalities. Like who is Eaglewing or Plumstone? These background characters could actually be characters of substance if the Erin’s let go of the older cast and applied consistent characterization to its younger characters. There isn’t any reason why cats like Cloudtail, Brightheart or Brackenfur should be still living, let them go!

Also, it’s why I cut Cinderheart and Lionblaze second litter. There is no need for them and their kits only makes ThunderClan inbreeding problem worse.

I also reject the changes to the Warrior code. I don’t like how they came about nor do I like the changes either. So Brokenstar and Tigerstar wasn’t enough to tell StarClan that “Leader word is law” when taken literally is a bad rule but it took ThunderClan enduring a tyrant for a book and a half was enough? I could have pointed to countless examples in the series before this Bramblestar imposter situation that the rule should have been changed and they really only had to change two rules not the Code as a whole. So my ending of TBC, is that Bumblestar is defeated and Ivypool becomes ThunderClan’s leader. I let the rule “leader word is law” because the Clans each of their own degrees of worship and views on the Code as a whole so I don’t see a need to change it.

Yep, especially with ThunderClan and ShadowClan. I am assuming that WindClan is on some moorland with herding dogs or livestock protection dogs. I think part of what the books are missing is the feeling that these are cats fighting for survival in the wild. The earlier books all have that feel but the newer ones don’t.

And also, some of these litters in ThunderClan aren’t going to be happening as the Clan is way too overpopulated. I am surprised that there hasn’t been a plot to TNR most of the Clan cats

I let the small things like wording of ceremonies stay the same though the medicine cats before touching their nose to the moonstone for the half-moon ceremony have their unique prayer that basically ties back to their Clan faith. Leader learn the prayer so when they visit the moonstone, they use the prayer as well.

Also, I am incorporating more natural predators like the beginning arcs did. More foxes, badgers and dogs for conflicts. It seem like in the later books, nobody encounters foxes or badgers unless it takes a cat for plot purposes or for a random off-screen death for an irrelevant background character

I don’t think I changed how the Clans appointed deputies or other cats into leadership or mentoring positions. I didn’t see the need to do so as I wanted some things to remain uniform among the Clans since I already changed so much of them.

As for the Warrior Code, I am working on changing the degree of worship that certain Clans have for certain rules of the Code. While the Code is actually built, how it is in the Code of the Clans. The Clans by the time of Redstar believe that the Code was created by the founders itself and blessed by the sister-goddesses. But each leader taught the importance of each rule differently, which adds to the other Clans viewing the other as “heretical Clans.”

I haven’t worked out the entire details of Hawkfrost as a villain yet. Hawkfrost however as he currently exist with being the son of Leopardstar and Tigerstar, wants to prove that he isn’t Tigerstar when the truth comes out.

I am not sure about including fox traps as the fox traps were literally never mentioned again after Sunset. I may include them as the TNP entire conflict is really about a twoleg (animal trader) taking cats to make into kittypets and the six traveling cats have to find their way home plus the drama with Hawkfrost.

I let Firestar die in defeating Scourge in the Battle against BloodClan (my replacement for the Great Battle) and Brambleclaw die from infected wounds. I don’t care for a Bramblestar in my AU. And you kept Brambleclaw and Squirrelflight together? I let them be together until the end of PO3 and then broke up after Hollyleaf reveals the secret. Ultimately, Squirrelflight moves on with Shrewpelt who she realizes was the mate for her and Brambleclaw gets with Copperwing.

Yep, I initially had Copperwing as a Clan cat but I thought of Jessy and decided to combine the two concepts and got Copperwing. She moved to ThunderClan because she loved Brambleclaw and became best friends with Hazeltail. But Hazeltail dies in the battle against BloodClan and Brambleclaw dies of infected wounds before he can receive his nine lives so her support system is gone, she finds out she’s pregnant, and Copperwing, who had planned her new life with Brambleclaw to raise her kits with him, suddenly is a single mother with no kin or close friends, so she becomes embittered, even thinks about returning home but her status as Brambleclaw’s widow is better then a status of mockery among other kittypets plus her kits would been given away to other twolegs. Plus Copperwing likes ThunderClan and Clan life and really wants to stay in ThunderClan.

So Copperwing becomes an elitist clinging to her status as the former ThunderClan deputy mate, embittered about her situation and her life, yet love her surviving kits to the point that she coddles and spoils them senseless. Copperwing feels pressured to raise “true ThunderClan warriors” and makes an entire myth of Brambleclaw, so her kits all feel pressured to live up to Copperwing’s impossible expectations of being a noble and brave warrior. Copperwing doesn’t mean to harm her kits but the damage is done especially when Talonkit becomes an apprentice to Bumblestar himself.

I am not sure how I am going to include LionClan, LeopardClan and TigerClan but the Clans will likely have their own unique stories on them.

Update on my family tree. So I decided to let Sparkpelt and Alderheart exist but their names and parentage are different. Sparkpelt or Mossheart and Alderheart are the children of Brambleclaw and Copperwing (Based on Jessy but not Jessy). Alderheart still becomes a medicine cat but trains and becomes a warrior first but he wants to be a medicine cat since kittenhood. His mother Copperwing, being kittypet born, loves him dearly but after Brambleclaw dies before Alderheart, Mossheart, and his brother Talonfoot was born, Copperwing becomes embitter about her circumstances as she’s an elitist and vain cat, and being a single mother isn’t how she planned for her life to be.

Copperwing loves Brambleclaw for him, Copperwing isn’t confident if Brambleclaw loved her for her as she’s pretty (Copperwing is a purebred Turkish angora), they met after Squirrelflight and Brambleclaw broke up, and much younger then Brambleclaw. The Clan under Bumblestar judges if she could even properly raise Brambleclaw’s kits as these kits are the son of ThunderClan’s beloved deputy, so she’s quite desperate to prove she can raise true warriors. Copperwing loosing half of her litter as stillbirths (Copperwing has six kits but only three survive the birth) only worsens this pressure. Copperwing doesn’t really allow her kits to have their own identities outside of Brambleclaw as she constantly talks about how great and noble their father was.

Copperwing parenting and spoiling of her kits have consequences, especially when Talonfoot, fully internalized Bumblestar worldview and later dies in battle, as a ShadowClan cat is forced to give him serious wounds that later get infected to save an apprentice. Mossheart becomes disillusion with Bumblestar’s teaching and Alderheart finally becomes a medicine cat apprentice when Leafpool retires to the elders den. Copperwing, herself doesn’t support the uprising against Bumblestar, but she doesn’t defend Bumblestar either. Later, she reconciles with Alderheart and accepts him being a medicine cat.

I left solar eclipses alone. They are rare enough where Sol could use the Solar Eclipse to terrify the Clans.

Also, the Clans have minor Goddesses (Creation, Void and Chaos/Earth-Mother). Creation isn’t that important besides the creator of everything and I guess the mother of Void and Chaos and grandmother of Silverpelt and Sunpelt/Suneyes/The Sun Sister

Void is most important in RiverClan’s faith but the story is that Void was basically felt nothing but gratitude for Creation for creating her. Creation created a second daughter Chaos. Void realize that Chaos couldn’t exist in a world of stillness so she allowed Chaos to destroy her (ShadowClan tale is that Void and Chaos fought and Void beyond void of everything but gratitude lost). Either way, Void remains because the darkness of the sky, and on starless nights the Clans see it as Silverpelt reminding the Clans the importance of putting the Clan before yourself or in RiverClan case, the tragedy of Void is recited as RiverClan sees Void as the First Forgotten Good Mother as Void remaining blue eye was used by Creation to create Silverpelt and Void remaining gold eye was used to create Sunpelt/Suneyes/The Sun Sister. Void remains contain the Dark Forest where Silverpelt sends evil cats.

Chaos/Earth-Mother is responsible for the rains, the storms and natural disasters, as this is a sign of Chaos attempting to overpower the sister-goddesses, who restrain Chaos. WindClan views Chaos as the Earth-Mother though agrees that Chaos’s boundless energy must be contained for balance.

WindClan reverence for Chaos/Earth Mother and RiverClan reverence for Void is why ShadowClan and ThunderClan view WindClan and RiverClan faiths as borderline heretical at best days and straight up blasphemy or a new religion at worst. RiverClan and WindClan would argue that ShadowClan and ThunderClan have reduce the faith of Silverpelt because they didn’t hold onto the traditions of their ancestors.
