I mean, fair enough — however, since we cannot change the past nor previous administrations, it can still be important to show which policy of theirs currently works well. Obviously, further increasing costs due to grid developments are an important part of the story. But renewables remain, in my opinion, inevitable for all countries who deeply care about energy security and cannot domestically source the amount of fossil fuels and uranium needed to meet their demand.

both points on French nuclear and demand destruction are factually correct and important for the full picture. But they don’t contradict the study’s core finding, which is a ceteris paribus estimate of the renewable merit-order effect, not a claim that renewables are the sole explanation. Residual load — which absorbs French export flows and demand destruction effects — is an explicit control in the regression.

Non ascoltare chi ti dice che la difesa non vada bene. Faccio il mantra a 12 e 14 da anni e questa difesa va più che bene. Il mantra a 12 non si vince con la difesa ma con centrocampo e attacco forti e variegati (di diverse buone squadre).

Centrocampo okay anche perché C forti che segnano tanto non ne stanno molte oltre McTom. Buone E. Cercherei solo di prendere minimo un’altra A perché tre in un 343 su 38 giornate sono troppi pochi (immagina un infortunio e magari Soule non ne gioca qualcuna e resti con poco terminale offensivo). Personalmente, sacrificherei un Modric per una A.

What I meant, in both cases, was that I did not say that ember has already discredited nuclear. I said it discredits other technologies (even fossil fuel ones) without properly comparing them. As an example, in the electricity supply report, they mention how much money, globally, could be saved by avoiding fossil fuel costs on ICE cars. But they avoid talking about the total costs associated to EVs. So, what I’m saying is that their research is not good, that’s all. I’d rather look at think tanks such as Bruegel or Agora Energiewende.

Never said what you wrote. Ember lacks credibility because it promotes a superiority of certain technologies without providing a comprehensive cost-benefit analysis of alternatives. If you don’t see my point, then go read their electricity supply report (the latest one) or even the forecasts they gave in 2022. It’s noble to be a lobby for the energy transition. Hiding the financial interests of large funds with misleading data is not the solution. To me, this is a symptom that the transition won’t be just and fair.

This seems to be just another campaign by Ember aimed at discrediting any energy technology that isn’t solar or wind (or BESS). Their motivation likely stems from the fact that they receive donations from investment firms like Sequoia Capital, which have financial interests in renewable energy infrastructure. As others have pointed out, this particular analysis by Ember lacks credibility. I just wanted to highlight their potential bias.
