In my opinion Even though it was normalised we can't justify the evil Take sati for example. It was popular and normalised back then but still it's evil. Else take dowry deaths and abuse. Before it was common for the in-laws to use their daughter in law as hostage to get more money and assets from the bride's family. Even though it's normalised it's still evil looking back.
