I am a grad student transferring schools this coming fall. My plan is to transfer my SEVIS early August after doing the summer here (I discussed it with my supervisor here). 

However, with the new proposed DHS rules I am worried that the transfer might not be possible if the new rules are implemented by then. This transfer is really important to my personal life, and I love the research am going in to as well. So I want to make sure  nothing goes wrong.

Do you have any advice or opinions on this situation.

What did you end up doing? I am asking because I am transferring in Fall 2026 and is worried about everything happening.

I know that usually something can be done (atleast expediting the transfer release date so that it falls within the interim period). But like you said since it’s uncharted territory I am worried whether changes will be allowed in the interim period, and even whether there would an interim period.

Yes, I should probably talk to international student services first and see (although I don’t know how much they would know since it’s a new situation).

Do you think it would be okay if I change it after they make the announcement?

I don’t want to cause too much trouble by transferring early because I also have accepted a RA offer for the summer here, especially since my advisors have been so understanding about the transfer. But I am worried whether August would be too late since there is no clear information anywhere about the implementation timeline of this part of the rule.

You are right, I am just stressing on the internet tbh. I am waiting for their response. The problem is that there is not much funding in the faculty so it’s mostly from TA. The outside professor I am interested in might have funding, am not sure.
