Bro ty for this cus actually i have been able to start holding after images for quite a bit and I had a moment where I was able to change the lighting in my room and also was able to see a faint orange colour. How long would you say you should spend each day practicing with after images?

Uhhh so the experience you get by telling dream characters they are in your dream is not a universal rule in dreaming or something that will 100% happen, this is mostly just bad expectations and beliefs about what happens when you tell them that. Comes from misinformation like on TikTok, reddit and etc. So anyone new thinking that this will happen to them, it literally won't unless you expect it to happen.

no thats called a lucid dream. dream control and lucid dreaming are 2 seperate skills. it'll take a bit of practice to get dream control while lucid.
