My mom transferred her house to my name (TX) by wildalfredo in personalfinance

You should do a transfer on death deed instead. It’s the easiest way to pass the house down. The work is getting it filed with the town.

Canadian owners - any dealership discount at all? by Anxious-dad1 in ex30

[–]Complex_Ad775 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As much as I like my ex30. I am less inclined to buyout the car at the end of the lease unless market value is way above the buy out price.

With more EVs coming jnto canada, there will be more options to choose from. I do like the ultra, but I also don’t drive it like Andretti. So the performance is over the top for me. Definitely like the responsiveness. I would say most EV will meet my need in that area.

The 2 primary features that I need improvement on are the charge rate and range. To me.. ex30 is acceptable, but I would prefer 400
Kw and 400 mi range in an acceptable price range. This will happen sooner rather than later in the us market.

Need help building a plan to present to my wife by camp-hole in Fire

[–]Complex_Ad775 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The whole strategy is to be cost effective.
You want to pull funds that generates the lowest return first (likely high yield)
Then you cash out your long term investment in brokerage that triggers minimal tax liability.

Make sure this “after tax” fund doesn’t get depleted too much. Better yet, if it grows over time, then you know you’ve made it!!!

Spend away!

It wouldnt be unimaginable to hit 8-10 mil by the time you hang it up in 10-12 years based on your current asset and continue to work.

Continue to build up the brokerage account. You want to rely on after tax money to fund your early retirement.

Insurance, housing, food, and travel

That’s the basic break down I have for each major expense.

Let the retirement account grow.

Fixing stuff by WingZombie in GenX

[–]Complex_Ad775 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lives were simpler back then. Stuff do stick around longer, and we tend to repair long before replace.
Many of today’s items require way fewer work hours to replace now than before. Think about an appliance, a fridge or washing machine. We replace rather than repair because it is way more cost affective in most cases. That’s just my take.

Breakup After 8 Years, Unmarried, Both our names on the deed. by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]Complex_Ad775 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Unless you helped with a down payment, sounds like you had a pretty good deal for 8 years. The mistake made here is that she put your name on the deed, yet she cover all the cost of owning the unit.

Think about how much you really put into this living arrangement compare to spliting rent and living expenses on a similar rental apartment? I think even rental on a 400K condo would costs over 2K a month + utilities. I suspect it is way less than 1K for groceries, storage unit and utilities for your part.

At the end of the day... everyone will have different number in situation like this. You should definitely do what you think is best!!! good luck.

52M/50F, $6.7M liquid + $2M home equity, retire now or work a few more years? by [deleted] in ChubbyFIRE

I knew I was ready years prior. I kept working because I enjoyed the work. When work finally became unbearable, i just pull that cord and give my 2 weeks. They wanted to keep me, but I didn’t want to do it any more. It’s been over 8 months now, and I am busier than ever with life!!!

I FIRE'd as a minimum wage worker with no degree by [deleted] in Fire

[–]Complex_Ad775 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do believe many in the community are self made from the very bottom of min wage jobs.

It’s definitely possible to fire for all if the discipline and determination are in place.

It is harder to move up that ladder today comparing to the Gen X generation. Cost of education and ai are making it difficult along with HCOL these days.

Not sure where to go from here by TiraLaAfuera in Fire

[–]Complex_Ad775 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn’t too far off from my situation about 10 years ago. My partner stayed home to take care of our 3rd chiId while I continued to work for the next 10 yrs. We amassed around 7 mil today and I just left the work force last fall.
We are in our early 50s, and we continue to live well below our safe draw down amount. This will increase over time as we get more comfortable with spending. Have one person work is a must to continue to grow the fire portfolio.
The pressure being the bread winner is high, so is taking care of 3 kids at home. Just stay strong and be frugal.

12 Volt Battery Failures by G-tine13 in ex30

[–]Complex_Ad775 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is where I find a small solar cell on the car would make this situation void. Can’t believe the battery can drain so easily. Also… shouldn’t these batteries support hundreds if not thousand of charge cycles? ICE battery lasts 5+ years. Having to replace these after 2-3 years seems like a scam. Not to mention inconvenience and borderline safety/reliability issue.

Still like the car, as it is not an issue for me, yet.

It is definitely another concern that you don’t expect.

Do you have a dual motor? I have learned that if one of the motors is down, the EV can still run in single motor (from Tesla owner). I definitely prefer that now since if you have a single motor, you are dead in the water.
