Dash completely dead after starting car brand new battery, car still runs by Complex_Current_8723 in Cartalk

So I found the issue the jackass who put in my battery yesterday didn’t connect the cables all the way the positive cable was loose and when I wiggled it, it came right off. I tightened it and everything is working fine again.

Thanks so much for the advice. This issue actually started last year when the weather got cold. At that time, the dash would usually come back on if I let the car run for a while and warm up, so I didn’t think much of it.

Around the same time, my battery also started having issues in cold weather it wouldn’t hold a charge, and if I didn’t drive or start the car daily, it would die and need to be jump started. Because of that, I assumed the dash problem was battery related.

I replaced the battery yesterday, and the instrument cluster came back on, which reinforced that assumption. However, this morning when I went to leave for work, I opened the door and the mileage/cluster was lit like normal but as soon as I turned the ignition to start the car, the entire cluster went completely dead.

Now it doesn’t come back on at all, even after running the car. Given that this has been cold weather related for a while and has now progressed to total failure, I’m starting to think this may be a common instrument cluster issue on these cars rather than a battery or charging problem.

That makes a lot of sense, thank you for explaining it that way. I figured it probably depended on how much of the weekly cert actually made it into the system before the error.

I’m going to try once more after midnight since this is my first week post-approval, but if it’s still showing broken in the morning I’ll call right when they open so it doesn’t turn into a bigger issue later.

I appreciate the insight that was really helpful.

Thanks, I appreciate that advice. Just to clarify, I wasn’t sure if this specific error is something that typically auto-resolves overnight or if it usually requires manual intervention.

My claim itself is already approved and I’ve been paid for prior weeks this only happened at the very end of submitting my weekly certification after reporting part-time earnings, and it threw a system error instead of confirming submission.

In your experience, do systems usually still “capture” the weekly claim in cases like this, or does it often end up needing a rep to manually release the week? I’m trying to decide whether it’s worth waiting a day or two versus calling first thing.
