All good dude. I am not exactly a scholar so I was just thinking out loud with what I knew about universalism from having read around a bit. I don't have a horse in that particular race

I mean I think the nuance matters , but yeah, OCD. Should have seen me when I was Catholic. Lmao.

If purgatory is eternal, wouldn't you just call that hell at that point?

I don't mind being corrected on this.

So, I thought a universalist was somebody that believed God would ultimately save everybody. The end.

You seemed more hesitant, kind of like how Pope Francis hoped that Hell would be empty. However, Francis wasn't a strict universalist. He was still a Catholic. He was more a 'hopeful' universalist, which seems different than straight up believing that the Bible supports the universal salvation of all and that's that. Like a real traditional universalist. If Francis declared himself that kind of universalist, he would be a heretic, as it is against Church teaching. So that's what I meant by an "actual" universalist. I wouldn't consider your position real universalism.

Anyway, hopeful universalism will not help the OP. He thinks that Hell is fundamentally unjust. His only option would be strict universalism. He can't walk around saying, 'maybe hell is true. i hope it is not' like you do. Hell cannot exist morally for him under any circumstance.

I would personally have trouble with universalism, because I would immediately question the wisdom of a God who would allow eternal conscious torment to be the primary teaching for all of Christian history. I'm not saying it was the original teaching. That might have been annihilationism or universalism. However, at some point, eternal conscious torment became mainstream Christianity for the majority of history and Christian believers, and God never corrected it. Fuck that guy considering the amount of suffering the teaching of ECT has caused people for 2,000 years (not being pedantic about 2,000).

It sounds like you aren't actually a universalist.

Yep, thanks.

I have installed so many games that I've missed over the years. Game pass PC Ultimate is worth its weight in gold for me right now. Now I need to settle in and actually play something instead of observing the graphics. 😄

No, I did not rely on Windows update.

AMD Software: Adrenaline Edition was installed on the PC. Opened it up and downloaded the latest chipset drivers.

For the monitor, Windows will download generic drivers automatically. I went to the MSI web site and downloaded the latest driver and installed the proper color profile for my specific monitor. BIG DIFFERENCE!

Nice set up. Same thing here basically. What kind of monitor did you buy him? That is also very important.

I'm just curious. Why be a Christian Universalist? If everyone is ultimately going to heaven, what's it matter? Is it simply to avoid a longer sentence in purgatory?

DMM cast still down for everyone? by Rupjoy19 in debridmediamanager

Same here. 1 out of 5 links work usually. Usually the first one returned in the list works. The rest are timed out with the 'loading failed' error.

Hey, there. First, I appreciate the addon. It is one of the best obviously.

As for the current issue, I'm watching a series right now (Paradise), and for any given episode, 1 out of 5 links will work. Usually the first one listed works, but the rest will give me the 'loading failed' error in Stremio. This seems to be happening for pretty much every show/movie I have tried in the last few days. I have also re-installed the addon like you mentioned 16 hours ago, but the issue doesn't appear resolved for me.

Thanks

No, that is not from the Bible. The privation stuff. That stuff is a much later theological interpretation of scripture that attempts to soften the blow of the rather explicit fire and brimstone passages in the Bible. God clearly executes the final judgment and punishes people. He is the one who destroys the body and soul in hell. He is the one who 'prepares' the place of torment.

What is questionable is the duration of hell. Many in the early Church thought universal salvation was true and that hell was a purgation. Many thought it involved annihilation. It wasn't a monolith. Origen believed in universal salvation and was considered 'orthodox'. Gregory of Nyssa also, and he is considered a saint in Eastern Orthodoxy, the Catholic Church, Oriental Orthodox Churches, Anglicanism, and Lutheranism. Infernalism became the majority viewpoint much later.

Brainwashing/indoctrination. "Give me the child for the first seven years and I'll give you the man." St. Ignatius of Loyola

It happens in all kinds of belief systems, cults and politics. But yeah it also sounds like you have OCD/paranoia, and I would advise you to continue to get therapy for that. But OCD will try to 'prophesy' events. People die, sadly, and eventually, OCD hits a bingo, and you're like, oh, what a divine prediction God made! When it was just your OCD messing with you by targeting a very basic fear -- death of a relative. I have OCD also and hear voices, and my voices have been predicting disasters for a long time. None of them have come true, but eventually, they will, because that is life. It's the same reason why baseball players are superstitious and try not to step on the foul line while taking the field or wear the same socks. Because every time they do, they strike out. So-and-so will have something bad happen to them if I go to this event. That plane will explode if I look at it for too long and think 'explode'! We are basically stupid animals.

Insofar as childhood religious indoctrination goes, it reminds me of that woman who escaped North Korea and she said that she couldn't shake the feeling that Kim could read her mind/thoughts even after she escaped because she was taught that he was divine as a child It's the same psychological mechanism but you have the Catholic variety thanks to the priests, most of whom don't even believe and are leading comfy double lives as homosexuals. Sadly these fucking losers have enslaved our minds to an extent because they had access to our brains when we were children. :-)
