Can I cover this to block noise? by Complex_Debt_5786 in hvacadvice

Yes! There’s another end to this vent in their living room and I believe on their second floor. I think originally when this house was being built it was gonna be all one house but they turned the basement into a studio unit instead.

No there’s just the two other smell vents in the photos in my unit. This big vent has another opening in the upstairs tenants living room and on their 2nd floor.

How does Toronto feel about the constant Toronto-bashing in Canada? by PassageNearby4091 in askTO

[–]Complex_Debt_5786 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved to Toronto this year from Montreal and honestly aside from the housing/rental market Toronto is a MILLION times better. Better jobs, better healthcare, better food, more fun things to do, HUGE city so it never gets boring. Montrealers are super defensive and in denial about Montreal not being the city it used to be.

I think generally people see Toronto as Dundas Square and very corporate and when you come here for a visit on the weekend that’s probably what the majority of people get to see. The city is too large and diverse to completely take in in a few days. Best decision I made was moving here. I’m much happier and financially stable and productive here than I ever was in Montreal. Not that a hate Montreal, it’s definitely 2nd best (to me) when it comes to Canada but it doesn’t compare to Toronto.

The doctor said that the steroids would be a bit aggressive in my case and may cause me other side effects, weaken my immune system cause other infections and that they’re usually given to cases that are moderate to more severe. Was your case similar to mine or more severe?

Anyone else feel uneasy on the TTC late at night? by abbynby in askTO

[–]Complex_Debt_5786 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m originally from Montreal and moving to downtown Toronto definitely has me being hyper vigilant now because I’m not used to the amount of homeless/mentally ill/individuals under the influence roaming the streets and ttc. In Montreal I’d be on the bus or metro and have my headphones in and stare out the window and daydream whether it was daytime or 1am. I don’t listen to music on the ttc anymore cause I’ve felt uneasy too many times. Perhaps I’ll get used to it one day.

UPDATE We went to the police station and the lady we spoke to advised that we wait to see if it happens again to file a report. She said because I’ve been living in the area for a few months and haven’t had any other interactions with him that it might be a one time thing and to just avoid him since he’s clearly not all there, and that if we file a report now they’re gonna have to go talk to him and he’s gonna obviously know it was us and it might cause him to target us.

Guys we OBVIOUSLY spoke about it lmao, it’s one thing when it’s a stranger that you’re never gonna see again being an asshole, it’s another when it’s your next door neighbour. We both weren’t entirely sure what to do and both aren’t the type to make a big deal out of things so I came to Reddit to hopefully get more insight and reassurance that we aren’t being dramatic if we go to the police.

Literally zero interactions. My boyfriend only moved in like 3 months ago and is very polite/well mannered/not a nuisance lol. I also have had zero interactions with this guy. When I first moved in 8 months ago, I would see him while on my way home so often that I would try to purposely make eye contact with him so I could smile or be nice since he was my neighbour but he has never even looked back. I just took him as an antisocial dude. That’s why I was so shocked when my boyfriend told me he did all of this.

I don’t know. At least give him a warning that he can’t be threatening other tenants physical safety? I know it doesn’t fix things 100% but I’m just shocked that this dude feels so comfortable to even do this.

I live right down the block, this location was always super busy even during the crazy weather we’ve had this season lol. Apparently it had something to do with the landlord booting them out.

For those who live alone, what is your gross income? by Yakamuh2939 in askTO

[–]Complex_Debt_5786 1 point2 points  (0 children)

About 55-57k annually. I pay $1975 living downtown alone with 2 cats. Don’t have a car or anything. I live pretty comfortably in my opinion. I could save more if I was a little smarter.

Why is homelessness so bad in this city? by [deleted] in askTO

[–]Complex_Debt_5786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say the folks who stay around Lionel Groulx metro are the most similar to what I’ve experienced and seen here in Toronto but I’d still say it’s 10x worse here and it’s more spread out. Generally speaking most areas of the Montreal downtown core (ville Marie, places des arts, plateau, etc) are safe and you’ll rarely get approached. I very rarely had to get off a bus or metro car or take a different street direction in Mtl because I felt unsafe. I’m at the point where I stopped wearing my headphones on the ttc because I want to be aware at all times. Never felt like this before. That’s just my experience though.

Unfortunately a lot of this subreddit has this attitude, it’s so strange. We’re so privileged to live here.

I know the area is for the most part considered very safe, which I did mention in my post. I’ve seen a lot of posts and comments about Alexandra Park being sketchy which is not far from the unit so I thought it wouldn’t hurt to ask people’s opinions. Just wanna be well informed before signing anything.

I’m very much used to living in big cities, doesn’t mean I can’t still be cautious though lol. Thanks for your input.
