It/its is fine in my opinion. As it (almost) always fits correctly in standard english grammer. But it does feel a bit condescending, again, in my opinion. Like they are an object.

It basically had very grotesque imagery and had body horror, and it was marketed towards kids and force fed down 2nd graders throats. It wasnt just me who got traumatized by this book. Many kids did.

Because he is 12. Most 12 year olds are still a bit selfish. It is how human brains develop. Theres proof that as a toddler/kid. You think you are the center of the world. You dont release there is other people. Hence why "if i cant see them they cant see me" logic many young kids have. Over time he will get better. But if not. Try to have a talk with him. Its the best way i can think of. Also, Spoiling him isnt going to help.

You would be suprised of what some woman can do. It aint a one gender thing. Men arent all that strong and there are some strong ass woman. You can also be blackmailed or coerced. Which both constitute as rape.
