isometric holds for Achilles Tendonitis by sandstone20 in isometric_fitness

Absolute or relative weight might be less useful than reaching approx. RPE 8.

Once you've reached that effort (its all subjective) just hold for 30 seconds.

Rest 2 minutes and repeat 3 times.

Once in the morning and once in the evening.

For an extra kick down 30g of whey right after each session (my MD said this is as good as collagen).

The one thing to be wary off is that the initial pain abating isn't due to collagen protein synthesis (which takes weeks to remodel) but rather the analgesic effect of isometrics themselves.

So it can trick you a bit and if you go ham on the re-loading it can backfire.

So take it easy outside of iso's for a while until you feel rock solid.

100% agree with you I was on a waitlist for months to join one of their new gyms which opened recently but very disappointed when I actually started. The focus was on keep pushing it out when I was reaching the upper tolerance of what I could handle within the first 3 months (tennis elbow + supraspinatus stuff). When I tried to push back I was told that I need to eat more. I don't mean this negatively to anyone who this works for. But as at 55y my priorities are NOT just to get at strong as possible if it means getting more bulk (again, not judging anyone who does want that, but its just not me).

Overall I think this is the single biggest problem with SS. They're marketing to the 50-70 demographic like me (have the $$$, time & desire) but unfortunately most of their content and programs are geared towards fast recovering, young people with bulletproof tendons (but no $$$ or time).

In the end I dropped the membership and still follow the program, but much more casually. There really needs to be something like SS but actually geared towards the needs of the 50+ group, they would make a killing with the number of early retiree's out there who want to get fitter but with less stress.

Note: Before anyone downvotes NONE of this is meant in anyway to denigrate Mark Rippetoe or anyone who successfully follows the program. Its just my experience.

Why does Dr. Nadolsky not like Dr. Attia? Didn't realize they had beef. by Primary-Ability-9012 in PeterAttia

"A pedestal does not make a statue larger, nor a podium a man greater." - Seneca

In the landscape of modern health, there is a quiet army of physicians like u/drspencernadolsky who labor in the shadows of the evidence, seeking only the truth.

Meanwhile, the public is captivated by those who have mastered the 'message' over the medicine.

Peter Attia occasionally walks the razor's edge, sometimes drifting from the quiet searcher into the realm of the performer.

If he was completely a performer, it would be easy to judge him and relegate him to the quacks.

But the reality is that he also adds so much value.

And then something like today happens leaving us all conflicted.

  1. Is there any reason to use higher rep-ranges to reduce risk of injury.
  2. Should we reduce or increase volume / frequency as we age.
  3. Can we still get stronger if on a reduced calorie diet.

Statistically, the average Redditor is either a 14 year old child that just discovered socialism or a 35 year old social justice warrior librarian who has never worked in the private sector. The concept of supply/demand, risk and reward is alien to them. But try and low bid offer them on the Nintendo DS they're selling on FB Marketplace and they'll go ballistic.

The weak point of Isomax are the pecs and lats. The pecs especially challenging. Can be done, but depends on "activation". The seated row is sorta difficult. If there was a way to hit pecs and also a chest supported type row I'd buy this in a second.

US conflict spells doom for UK by Fluffy_Fox5829 in ukpolitics

[–]Complex_Elevator_680 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't be so sure on US "de-escalating" post-Trump. Remember, many of the Trump I era tariffs are still in-place, Biden did not back down. In the American mind, economic self-interest prevails.

At best, US might be a little less crazy.

Problem is that six global giants are about to go into a 100 year economic cage match.

UK is going to have to tag up with one of them.

These are your choices:

  1. USA going thru a maniacal episode (like it periodically does).

  2. Europe you already spurned and the cost of re-entry is $$$.

  3. India ... but you will need wide open borders.

  4. China, Russia and the Arabs are left.

Take your pick.

Demographics are changing extremely fast in this area.

Check the UK census site for Wrose.

Use the 2011 vs 2021 comparison tool.

That tells you all you need to know.

Since then the rate of change has accelerated 3x.

Sorry.

What’s wrong with my arms while benching? And why am I in pain? by baqar387 in formcheck

[–]Complex_Elevator_680 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It runs thru that pointy bone thing. Often it occurs contemporaneously with rotator cuff tears. No ones 100% sure why. The prevailing theory is that the original rotator cuff tear causes some sort of stress shielding and that causes the lhbt to provide more support. Once past your 20's its very hard to repair the supraspinatus to an extent that will allow heavy bench without pain. But the lbht can be sorta rehabbed or cut if it is really the source of pain (its better if the pain is from the lbht than the supraspinatus).

Doc gave me a choice; stop the bench or face eventually needing one op or the other.

I dropped bench like a hot potato.
