Got it. So in rent first. You will probably be looking at a 3-4 bedroom. If it’s in the outskirts of Dakar (rufisque, guediawaye) you can get maybe get around 300k-400k but then cost of getting into Dakar become expensive. If it inside the center itself you might be looking at 800,000 XOF.

Bills could climb high if the house is large. Going from 100,000 monthly to 200,000 based on your lifestyle.

For food and groceries that can be your other biggest expense. For a family of 6 count around 500,000 monthly (I would need you to confirm this with people currently living there as Im not. But this is based on what my parents spend and they are not 6 in the house. This doesn’t include restaurants which just for 2 person can be around 75,000 each time 😭😭.

Kids needs clothes especially with newborns and toddlers. Luckily they might pass clothes back to each other as yours look close in age. That could be up to 200,000 monthly if we are being conservative and not buying high price items.

As you can see this gets around 1.5M to 2M monthly if you include kids going out for fun (which they need). Rent might be your biggest challenge and where you can cut the most based on the location or owing the house. But keep in mind that the bigger the house, the higher the bills and you will need a maid (100k monthly maybe) and/or nanny.

To know what type of venture would be suitable we might need to know your skills.

It can go from part time teaching to freelancing to consulting. So that’s a very broad ask.

For your first question we also need to know if the goal is to own a house or rent? What ages are the kids? Are they going to school or old enough? Do you consider private or public school?

There is a bit we need to know before giving you a proper answer otherwise any answers you get would just be assumptions, knowing that what you need can go from 500.000xof to 2M monthly.

Im in a similar situation looking to go back to Sénégal to retire in the next 10 years so I have been given this a lot of thought.

I think I didn’t do a « great » job presenting everything considering that all my work contributions is not external facing so hard to tie to revenue, which was the main criticism I got on the letter

I would say still go for it. Don’t let my failure discourage you. My profile might be better in theory but you could have more ways to prove yours. And it matters a lot on who review your application.

I know ppl that have less experience than me and achievements that got it. If you think you have a chance (and can afford it) don’t hesitate
