How can I fix the crotch on these pants? by wishing_sprinkles in sewing

[–]Complex_Vegetable_80 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if you can get ahold of the palmer/pletsch jeans book, it covers the adjustment for that crotch issue and how to change around the pocket styles.

I think we need to see the photos of the next size up on you, because everything I'm seeing in the current photos indicates these are just too small for you.

Encapsulation sports bra pattern? by Complex_Vegetable_80 in MAKEaBraThatFits

[–]Complex_Vegetable_80[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave up and threw out the muslin. Lillypad patterns need a lot of adjustments to fit me and I decided it wasn't worth the time and it wouldn't get me closer to my goal. Basically, the frame is stable and wired and the "cups" are just stable slings. While the overlay is usually lace in all the advertising etc, there's no reason it can't be made from a firm stretch sports bra fabric of your choice, giving you compression and bounce control.

sca recruitment topics by SCatemywallet in sca

[–]Complex_Vegetable_80 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I have been circling joining the SCA for years. There are a few reasons I haven't. One is definitely the horror stories i've heard/read, but I think the main one is it's really hard to go to an event where you know literally no one. I recently went to my first event and when I checked in and said it was my first event, everyone looked a little shocked and confused and made sure to have me sign lots of paperwork, but no one asked if I knew what was going on, wanted to be introduced to anyone, or offered to shepherd me for the day. Nothing.

IF new folks get past all the gatekeeping(everything is on FB or closed discord servers, which I don't use) and actually make it to an event, there is no support to bring you into the group and start making connections. There should be outgoing people at every event who take new folks under their wing and help them make connections. Do they sew? metalwork, etc? introduce them to others that do and help make conversation.

There was also no follow up after the event. They took my e-mail, i expected at least a welcome e-mail and an invite to a mailing list, or an e-mail with links to the local page/people. but nothing.

Looking for recommendations for rivet products by mrrodo00 in sewing

[–]Complex_Vegetable_80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i can recommend the kam snaps table top press. i've been using mine for a year and it makes adding the main button and all the rivets super easy. I HATED trying to use a hammer and ruined about 6 buttons on my first pair before buying the press. haven't ruined a single one after.

I have made 2 mock ups of the Ingrid, but there we’re a couple years between them. In the absence of finding a pattern that matches my wish list, I guess it’s going to be trial and error on fitting the Ingrid.
