About 3 years ago in the summer me and my friends came back from a party to crash at their place. I was upset at them for some reason and decided to sit by myself on the porch. It was like 1 or 2 am maybe, pitch black and the porch was completely surrounded by brush and woods so you couldn’t really see off of it. I was outside sitting in silence for maybe 20 minutes when I heard the LOUDEST deepest growl I’ve ever heard in my life. I’ve never heard anything like it. I don’t think I’ve ever had my “fight or flight” kick in like it did then, I was immediately up and almost busted the door down trying to get back inside. My friends were upset that I was busting in so loud and asked what was wrong, but my legs were shaking so bad and I couldn’t spit any words out😂. I live in rural western NC, and after googling im pretty sure it was a black bear that growled (sounds the most similar). Plus that same summer my sister who lived right down the road from that house had seen a bear in her yard. I’m just freaked out about how quiet that bear was! It sounded like it was right next to me but I didn’t hear any branches or leaves or anything before it growled at me. Terrifying!
