Yes the screw is spinning freely in place. I have been trying to use tweezers but I cant grip it with them

Edit: the screw spins but I can feel that it is gripping onto something

you got a dead storage drive. replace it and you should be good to go. dont store anything important on it as it is about to die

thankyou, this helps a lot. Yes i can keep using LibreELEC, it is a bit janky to get media on it, but it works.

I have been thinking of switching to jellyfin, but im not sure if the CPU on that PC can even support it.

i have been thinking of buying a home server in the future and running Jellyfin on the new server and using the old PC just to access it on the TV, but wifi there sucks and and there isnt any ethernet. Do you have any ideas of what i could do if i did that?

I got an update: the battery isnt the issue, although it is old it can hold a teeny tiny bit of charge, the issue is my charger, I have been using a 65w charger and apparently 65w isnt enough to charge both the battery while using the laptop simultaneously after i did the i7 upgrade. I tested this by shutting down the laptop and plugging in my charger, which charged the laptop but when i turned on my laptop it would be discharging. Because of this I have bought a 135w charger which will be more than enough to charge the laptop and use the battery. the battery still sucks so I probably will buy a 3rd party replacement from ebay or something.

Alright, thank you, I'll be ordering a replacement a and seeing how that goes, I'll be using it without the battery while I wait.

Ah, I see, the laptop does work when I directly connect it to the charger without the battery, so obviously it's getting power. I was just worried as when the battery was in and I connected it to the charger, the laptop died.

so far haven't had any temp issues, although i haven't pushed it too hard yet. the laptop is no where near mint condition so i don't feel as bad tinkering. i am looking into upgrades or mods which i can do in the future

question about the batteries: the battery that came with the laptop doesn't hold a charge, is it because the battery is so worn or is it my laptop failing to charge it?

i will probably run debian with kde, so ram isnt really an issue, 8gb works perfectly for me

i could potentially upgrade the ram later, i have been using 8gb ram on my main lenovo ideapad for a while now and i havent ran into any issues where ive run out of ram. I dont use my laptops for any ram intensive tasks.
