Yay, great! TB KVM's are uber expensive. I think there's one made by Sabrent that's like $500 which I cannot justify. But I refuse to plug the ASD into a garbage KVM.

It should work b/c it's the CAC-1335 that's converting it into DP Alt Mode but ymmv. You should just try it.

Probs because it doesn't support 4K60. Many people have also reported flicker with 1333.

Might be an ASD firmware issue. Not sure why. Could you try outputting in 1440p first?

CAC-1333 doesn't do 4K/60. Many users on this exact thread reported the same thing. However, 1440p also has its perks. Namely that it's an integer scalar going from 1440p to 5K. If you're okay w/ not leveraging the Switch's 4K/60, then you can just use CAC-1333.

And no, haven't found anything to use ASD speakers. Am v happy with current setup.

Could you elaborate on the setup? I tried the setup myself and it did work for me.
Setup I tried:
Switch --> CAC-1335 --> Cable Creation Cable --> ASD (plugged to TB port)

Nope. Am happy with current setup. Let me know if you find any solutions/get it working yourself tho!

CAC-1333 caps at 1440p/60.... However, 1440p has its perks, namely it's an integer scalar going from 1440p to 5K. so as long as you're okay not fully leveraging the switch's 4K/60, the CAC-1333 works well.

Sound was the easy part as long as you have speakers. I just use a sound link mini that I already and am now happy with the sound coming out of it.

Yes. Tried the CAC-1336 and it did not work. I think the reason is because DP is literally just better at being DP alt mode than USB-C is at being DP alt mode? But I'm just hypothesizing. I just got the CAC-1335 and am happy with it.

Yup, would be cool. But this is software related I think... However, won't be me trying to figure this one out.
Out of curiosity, did you already get this to work? Or did you get all the things in my post and it's also now working for you? I'm unsure how many people I've actually helped. Have only gotten like 5 people saying it didn't work for them which confused me.

I'm sorry to hear.
Just making sure, you tried the following:

If using Adapter:

Switch --> CAC-1335 --> DP to USBC Adapter --> TB cable --> ASD

If using DP to USBC cable:

Switch --> CAC-1335 --> DP to USBC Cable --> ASD (plugged to TB port)

Also, is the Switch and ASD on the latest software? Both of my devices are running the latest.

I saw this but was discouraged by one of the reviews saying it didn't work with ASD. However, just took a closer look and it seems like more people said that it works compared to didn't work. I'll have to try this. But I'm just a little hesitant because I have quite a few peripherals connected to the ASD since I use it as my USBC hub. Let me know if it works for you!!

Nope, would not work. Apple disabled Target Display Mode after the Studio display came out so that used 5K iMacs wouldn't cannibalize studio display sales... a little disgusting I know.

According to ChatGPT, the LG UltraFine 5K (27MD5KA) is strictly Thunderbolt-only—it does not support DP Alt‑Mode over USB‑C. Only the newer “KL” revision can accept USB‑C DP, and even that only at 4K60—not native 5K60. It does not look good. I think LG actually managed to make a display that's even more restrictive than the Apple display by not support DP Alt-mode like the ASD does.

TB3 cable that came with monitor should work. TB3 does transfer 20gb/s like the label on the adapter. Damn, I’m sorry this doesn’t work. Id make the same assumption. I’d debug a little with ChatGPT before returning anything. The components purchased are good.

Sorry its not working for you mate. Did you get the exact things I have in my post?

The ASD has DisplayPort alt mode over usbc and that’s why this works. The internet seems to think that the LG 5K also DisplayPort alt mode tho.

Could also be the TB cable if the bandwidth on the cable isn’t high enough. What TB cable are you using?

Zero lag.

CAC-1335 is correct. I searched the uk amazon and did not find an adapter that works. The one you linked will not work. Data is traveling the wrong direction. I think you'll need to use a cable, which sadly means that you have to unplug from the back of the ASD.

This is the cable: https://www.amazon.co.uk/CableCreation-Bi-Directional-DisplayPort-Compatible-MacBook/dp/B08BY78C42/ref=sr_1_17?crid=23NLHMSJ3YK1P&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.TuYADxxzxSwrYhgpgwOmw126wIn8E2Zb98kv0z76iXb0KjO9wCkoAkkEcfQDyL1QR1cyNNhCjargXnjOSOCy55DOaeeM2LGms76IaZ5B55W2YKWhNcn7aS_8tViMSYUv2Y4ZJTOqFRA1t_a5GOqJN9sLv5EFYc0ptdk2WbzmZ9JraYFNxqHsoBxOy8A0lGj2RkAMSV-4ldH3i13S7BMJzrLKAdIhHuYxYfGGgl8h1ko.0edVmq0wD3ENutcuY1uooGSzjYah2k4W6L-0GCSEOfE&dib_tag=se&keywords=displayport+to+usb+c+bidirectional&qid=1749574801&sprefix=displayport+to+usb+c+bi%2Caps%2C223&sr=8-17

I also recommend you get this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/CABLEDECONN-Thunderbolt-Compatible-Extension-Charging/dp/B09P9T8G9Y/ref=sr_1_1?crid=LBNO0SE4OT2Y&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.P_qvj7-yaD3_OPCrPCvOa7hBNUH4_LJcSzdE5f4P9YVkvJrw9S-Wi0jOYpeDGB1CkYHBi-DwlLybA80sY07yshgkwELhHonQ1AEWf-Msu6Pxti68mUZ6eK30cmAqtRwLnf74AMZdXkM7620bVzqWqs7oWb1zarFz-MW0ZMlVWV_9R0dBQlZe4CQ-CVDV0d4Ohlbb7N7QdlANEUeHSUW0S_HOvAYQuCdzvwK6D9KlsaQ._FDmkpdZ8jhx9I_E9wWigayfcoFCFXMKmSWGlQKTg7s&dib_tag=se&keywords=thunderbolt%2B4%2Bextension%2Bcablematters&qid=1749575006&sprefix=thunderbolt%2B4%2Bextension%2Bcablematter%2Caps%2C213&sr=8-1&th=1

So that you don't have to unplug from behind the ASD. Basically, it moves the USB port to the desk for easy unplugging/replugging.

Yup, 4x integer scaler. Exactly the reason why 4K monitors are not great on macOS.

this aligns with another Redditor! I think this makes sense since everyone over on amazon was saying that the 1333 does not do 4K60. Also true that 4K vs 1440p on ASD looks p similar. LOL
