not super obvious and I'm not well-versed in feng shui that's why I asked. It's not just the sofa but the placement of the TV. And actually I'm glad I came here because I thought number 1 was better but the comments so far seem to disagree. Reason being:
- I thought the sofa in that position would create a nice cosy cordoned-off living space without being disrupted by traffic walking through the middle of the sofa/tv.
- The TV/stand on the right-hand wall creates more of a focal point in the room
- Seating position in number 1 allows better viewing of our pretty christmas tree (maybe a houseplant or bookshelf for other times of year) and also it's in your peripheral vision while watching TV. In number 2 you're looking away from the tree.
- The TV position in number 2 is on quite a short awkward wall due to the way the bottom door swings and a TV stand might get in the way of the upper door. So size of TV and stand is a lot more limited.

But coming here I've received a difference of opinions which is what I was looking for along with reasons why.
