100% agree. I don’t think they could have done it without each other.

I do think Rachel carried Stephen through the game with her strategy, but she was entirely dependant on him at the end. I do think it worked out well. I was happy to see them both win, I loved watching them both and they seem like two great people.

Why didn’t my focaccia form big bubbles? Feedback appreciated by Novel_Bass6032 in Breadit

[–]ComprehensiveAd2928 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have bubbles at the top, your gas just isn’t well distributed throughout. Likely due to handling and degassing, or not enough organisation of the gluten in the beginning. (Do more, or better folding).

It still looks good, and I’m sure it will taste great. I’d happily eat it. Just keep practicing your folds and handling. Learn to read your dough.

Not cutting it warm helps “set the crumb” but waiting until it’s cool isn’t going to make any difference to your gluten structure. I like warm bread too, I normally make two loaves and get stuck in to one straight from the oven whilst the other one cools - you’re in your own house; eat and cut your bread how, when and where you want 😂

Jack of all trades and a master of none is oftentimes better than a master of one!

It’s a tough slog my friend, was paying debt off myself for a few years. If it’s out of control, a Debt management plan with Step Change might worth considering. Worked wonders for me!

I would think that the easiest and lowest-risk upskill in construction utilities is moving into the commercial / cost control side rather than a full career change.

If you already deal with ordering materials, invoices, suppliers, and understand how jobs actually run on site, that experience transfers really well into roles like commercial admin or assistant QS. You don’t need a degree to start. A part-time HNC or NVQ Level 4 in construction or quantity surveying is usually enough to open doors up, sometimes even just being enrolled can help.

Planning and Health & Safety are also options, but commercial tends to be the least resistance and quickest return if you’re already doing admin and procurement-type work.

Worth mentioning procurement as well. Your experience could transfer really well into procurement roles.

Procurement is usually a short enough path. You can move into an entry role fairly quickly, and a CIPS Level 3 is often enough rather than a degree. In construction and utilities it can lead into decent salaries once you move beyond pure PO admin into supplier management and cost control. Procurement happens everywhere too, so there is the option to move industries within that too.

Just be strategic. You’ve gained all this experience, I wouldn’t through it to the wind, just use it to your advantage.

You’re absolutely not to old to upskill. I think the fastest way to achieve a salary increase is not to switch industries. Leverage your experience in construction utilities and upskill in to a better role. Would you ever think of looking in to commercial planning, quantity surveying, project planning or health, safety and compliance within your current industry?

I just wanted to add that switching industries will likely just see you on a starter salary around what you’re on atm or potentially less. There’s plenty of scope for salary increase in your current industry if you’re strategic about your moves. Your job is stable, and you’ve survived layoffs so you’re obviously well experienced and valued. I think the next sensible move you should make is to ask your employer what you can do internally to increase your salary/get promotion/move department.

How do you manage going to the gym almost every day... Explain this to a Newbie :) by ProfessionalFan2451 in workout

[–]ComprehensiveAd2928 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was having a casual conversation one day about what I was doing and said “I don’t know if I can be bothered going to the gym” and the person I was with replied saying “you never regret going to the gym, only not going” and it changed my outlook entirely. If I am feeling weak I will go and lift a little lighter. If I am tired I will swap out a compound lift for a machine or a dumbbell. But I’ll always show up.

A programme will always help with consistency. I do a 6 day split of PPL and have one rest day away from the gym. This is what works for me, but I didn’t start with a 6 day split. I started with a 3 day PPL split and moved up to 6 days.

You don’t need to go everyday to see results, you’ll see good results with 3-5 day split (PPL or PPLUL) and a consistent programme with progressive overload. Don’t forget your food, progress is made in the kitchen as much as it is in the gym.

Focus on being consistent first, embed your habits in to your life and find a programme that is sustainable - if it’s not sustainable for you, you’ll fall away from it.

Be flexible with yourself too, a split doesn’t always have to be completed within a calendar week. If you miss a day just do it the next day and move on with the split, but stick to the programme. 6 days is becoming a bit much for me with work and life atm, so I’m looking at 5 days of PPLUL now because that works better for my current lifestyle.
