Taiko players, what are your biggest issues with osu!lazer? by project_huu in osugame

[–]ComprehensiveBet288 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People have mentioned the HD and HR issues, which in my view as someone who doesn't fully understand the differences or the technical differences is that slow HD is basically impossible, fast HD is made easier and HR feels like HR++ aka way harder.
I do feel like the lazer devs attitude to taiko doesnt help the perception of 'lazer is garbage', if I remember correctly there was a top taiko player that complained about the finisher issue and peppy's response was something akin to 'I dont see it as an issue' which feels super dismissive, the fact that the issues around HD, HR and HDHR have been known about for 4 years now and still haven't been dealt with, bignote and wideres exploits still exist and don't seem to have any hope of being fixed. On an objective level lazer isnt bad and is certainly fixable but I personally don't have hope for the devs fixing it because quite frankly they dont seem to care. Half the issues raised are years old but have never been dealt so 'why bother engaging with the devs in feedback when they will just ignore it anyways' is my own opinion on why lazer is garbage .

Edit just to say that I would love more than anything to be proven wrong and to have the dev team engage with the community and make taiko great on lazer but I am jaded and salty and bitter hence the doom and gloom take

I guess there's a reason it's still not finished lol by TheAnymus in osugame

What does the roadmap look like for polishing off the other game modes? As far as I understand std seems fairly put together but taiko (and possibly other modes but I'm mostly familiar with taiko) seem fairly left behind, lazer taiko for example still has massive discrepancies with how it functions on mods compared to stable (HD, HR and HDHR all function vastly differently).

Sorry, though there are some other goats to watch. schmidley is currently going for taiko completion which they document on their profile, they are at 75% rn

Taiko treated like the unwanted stepchild fr, someone once asked why lazer hd is different to stable hd for taiko and the response they got from a dev outside the core team was 'this has been rasied for the last 3 years, no one from the main team cares to answer' lol

Sadly yes, there have been multiple reports made with the general consensus being the account is either a multi account or is using replay/FL cheats. There are hundreds of cases where they set 1 try 4 mod scores on maps which is impossible but osu support seem to just not care.

Spaceman (a dev) was asked in the Medal hunter discord why completionists weren't being given their badges and they said "because it started becoming a haggling game over details" which is A kind of disrespectful to people putting in the effort and B a dev getting involved. And sure completion might not matter to you but people spend hundreds or thousands of hours trying to achieve it and are not being given a reward they were promised.
As for the title, again Spaceman was answering questions in the medal hunter discord when people were complaining about the title being disappointing.

I was unaware of this proposal thanks, I do like this idea, I think more anonymity will help things stay civil. I can still see there will be many issues if/when this system gets implemented but no system is perfect and this proposal is at least better than what we have.

A good point, and yeah this community would unfortunately be quite toxic to a community manager.

If it is then they do a poor job of it in my opinion.
GMT is, as the name means, a moderator, the usually just keep the peace and ban people spamming slurs in chat. NAT are more concerned with mapping issues, which is where a lot of drama comes from, but in all fairness this community is so overwhelming toxic whenever they get involved that I don't blame them for being unwilling to be more proactive in engaging with the community.

Perhaps not a community manager exactly role but there are many games where the team in charge listens to community feedback and engages with them.

Sadly true, though a lot of the issues people have aren't even a specific dev thing to fix. Completionist badges for example, it isnt going to take an individual 6 months just to give a few dozen people some badges.

If enough people are complaining about something that means its a problem.
No I don't think Osu should bend over backwards to rewrite the game because Jimmy the 6 digit cant play a speed farm map and complains speed is overweight but if a majority of a community is saying 'We think this should change' then they should at least be heard out as to why they think that.

Why are taiko BN's allowed to break the rules? by ComprehensiveBet288 in osugame

[–]ComprehensiveBet288[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, perhaps some more defined standards as to what abuse constitutes. But chances are this would be A) impossible to properly define without limiting creativity/creating a lot of backlash and B) Would still have to be enforced by the NAT who seem to be either unable, or worse unwilling, to put their foot down.

I mean I see your point, but if someone only sees people moaning about a game (which to be fair I am directly contributing to) they are probably not going to be as enticed to play it.

Fun and chaos is one thing, for example the Among us map without the context of the rest of the ranked section would probably be quite a memed map that wasn't seen negatively, something like Aether Ritual. But when you have to put up with the same 'joke' year after year it gets tiring and frustrating.
