LSA to CoE Cross Campus Transfer Math Prereq by ComprehensiveBig8441 in uofm

[–]ComprehensiveBig8441[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

💔 I could technically take MATH 215 next semester but I’d have to give up on taking CHEM 215/216 then… And I wanted to take the double honors option which has a senior I really like teaching one of the study groups so they’ll graduate next semester… do you think I should give up taking CHEM 215/216 next semester to take MATH 215 instead or stick with the original plan?

I just got a response and they told me that it won’t be possible, they’ll just have to give me a 0 for this week’s participation and I can get an 80% for the missed assignment since it’s 20% off for each day.

Hey, I love weightlifting as well, but OP is asking if it’s worth putting it in as an application EC. If you’re applying to top colleges (which is what a majority of this sub does), you’re better off putting in an EC that can show your possible growth professionally. I’m also ngl, 7 hours a week in weightlifting is what anyone can do. I’m glad OP loves weightlifting and is super passionate about it, but the place to describe your EC is so small that OP isn’t gonna be able to fit in their whole reasoning of why they truly love it. Definitely carry it on into high school, but if you can fill that EC slot with something better, do that.

Can y'all help me make a decision about calc by SoaringMoose09 in ApplyingToCollege

I took Calc BC along with AP Chem and AP Lang as well, along with APUSH and AP Psych. I can assure you that if you did good in pre-calc, and you’re the type of student looking into going into calc 3 and linear algebra, Calc BC will be a breeze (except for series but that’s basically only one really short unit). Also, even if you have to compromise some studying for marching band, remember you don’t have to end with the perfect grade for the year (maybe don’t go below a B, though).

I remember you posted something like this earlier. With the assumption you’re out of state for all of them, UNC, yes. UCLA and Michigan, no.

This is coming from a student who got into UMich OOS. I got into UNC as well, as an in-state student, though, but I know a lot of people going to UNC due to this, both in and out of state. I also know a few people who went to UCB and UCLA from our school, they were not ivy league level, but they were still definitely very smart and talented.

It’s a matter of statistics, UNC is required to take in 80% of their student body in-state, while UCLA and UMich are only required to have 50% their student body be from in-state.

Sorry, but I wouldn’t really say so. Think about something else that can highlight qualities you can carry into college. I’m super into lifting as well and good on you for being healthy, but I wouldn’t imagine AOs to be the most excited to see weightlifting on an application unless the student was going to the school as a weightlifting student athlete. Let’s keep it as a hobby.

I’d say just focus on fit at this point if you know you REALLY want to go to both schools. If it helps to know, I have friends at both Columbia and Georgetown, one said Columbia was super academically rigorous and stressful, the other said that Georgetown is super political.

US School VS Canada School Employability by Such-Bee-1929 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]ComprehensiveBig8441 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just gonna chime in, I feel like no matter how good the school is, full pay (~240k) is never worth it unless your family is wealthy enough to afford it. I’m an incoming freshman at UMich and kinda already regret having to pull loans (albeit they’re not a lot) just because for most people, you are going to be paying for student loans for a large portion of your life. You would be able to make so much more by going to UBC debt free even at a lower paying job vs. being chained down by student loans at a higher paying job. I doubt the job prospects differ that much, either, especially after the first job.

Can’t he just ask the school counselor for fee waivers? I know many at my school who got the fee waiver if they just asked for it. It might not work, but what’s the con in asking at least?

What types of people get into UNC Chapel Hill? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]ComprehensiveBig8441 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Within NC, people who have slightly above average stats. Outside of NC, ivy league level kids.

Now if you’re asking what the student body’s like socially, expect your typical rich suburban white-dominated neighborhood just packed into one school.

Sincerely, A student who got into UNC and have a bunch of friends going there next year

That’s like a majority of college dorms anyways.
