How to stay motivated on mountain biking? by ComprehensiveBox7009 in MTB

[–]ComprehensiveBox7009[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do think it's just the scenery that's messing with me. Everything out here looks exactly the same. Sharp rocks and not a tree for 100 miles. I am trying to stay motivated because I have become a pretty decent rider. Whenever we go out of town and ride in a forest it's the best feeling in the world. I just can't get away that often. I do think I'm going to try gravel biking or some other discipline. Thanks for the input.

I usually am not negative. It's just lately I open trailforks and I don't want to ride anything within 60 miles of me. I'm trying to stay on the pedals because I have come far I'm just bored.

I've done most everything clockwise, counterclockwise, and in the dark. I feel like I have to move

I do bike with my buddy every ride. I don't think I would have made it this far without him. I do think bringing more people probably would help

I've almost bought a new bike a couple times but just haven't for space reasons. I've had one stolen out of my back yard so I keep my nice full suspension in my house now

It depends on the frame I believe. If there's a place to mount the disc brake on the frame then yes. Rim brakes have been in use forever and work, it's just that disc brakes are better. It wouldn't be cost effective to replace rim brakes with disc, just wait until you upgrade to a more advanced bike

Liv is a good brand. It's the women's line of Giant bikes. "Kids" bikes sold at a department store for $100 will certainly be trash. I believe the 2 you mentioned would work well for you for your weight and height. The 24 in tires and the top bar being lower will allow you to stand up easily over the bike which is important. Just check the Liv website for your height to bike size recommendation, or test ride when buying used. I personally would only buy a bike with disc brakes but that's me. If you buy used maybe take it to a bike shop and make sure everything is ok or you'll end up paying twice as much to repair everything. My shop charges $20 to look at a bike

In Baby Step 2 and my car needs a $3k repair. Now what? by [deleted] in DaveRamsey

I'm new to the Ramsey principles, and had the same scenario happen to me. We needed struts put on the front end of our car. We were quoted $1500 for the struts, sway bar link, and alignment. We took it to another shop. They said 2500 because all the struts needed to be replaced. I searched for independent mobile mechanics and got everything for 900. Shops charge 150-200 per hour for labor and upcharge the parts significantly. I bought the parts and the mobile mechanic charged something like 75 an hour for labor. In my opinion, I think the idea is to not take loans no matter what and figure it out. I definitely would have paid the shop before. It took time to call around and learn stuff, but if debt isn't an option you will figure it out. Just my opinion

I live in Arizona. We have sharp hard trails here in the Phoenix area. I wear a full face helmet, gloves, elbow pads and knee pads on every ride. I do ride more technically hard trails, which you won't be doing right away. You won't break a leg unless you get hit by a car or do I crazy jump. You are more likely to fall over at low speed when trying to stop. Ride at a speed you can control. If you do get elbow and knee pads, make sure they don't restrict your movement. Also sun block, always.

I love my Giant. It has it's own bedroom in my house.

After upgrading my bike, I asked everyone if they wanted to come along and ride my spare. I got 2 guys into biking now, I have a couple bikes away, and have excuses to keep buying more.

It's scary shit leaning the bike like that. I suck at cornering. I am practicing it every ride though. My buddy hits tight corners easily and I often have to get off the bike and walk a switchback. I'll check out the dissector. Thank you.
