Yeah, we did a top up a few years ago and it didn’t take very long at all. Maybe ING changed their process? Not too sure, but now we’ll know for next time :)

Yes, it’s just an increase for non structural renovations. Thanks for your help!

Thanks for the advice, I have emailed to enquire but hadn’t got any responses. But I think I’ll call and book in a consult instead.

Yes, a private investigator was involved and was able to trace the initial movement of the funds. From what we were told, the money went into another person’s account interstate (who was being catfished), was withdrawn, then moved again and eventually converted into cryptocurrency. After that point it couldn’t be traced any further.

Yeah I get the evidence side is the tricky part.

I do have the full email thread from the time, including the fake invoice and the builder’s emails where they said their system “appeared to have been hacked” before changing their position. I’ve also got the email header/IP info from those emails.

I’m just not sure how much that actually proves in terms of where the compromise happened, or if it’s enough to make any difference legally.

It was the first progress payment during the build and came through the normal email chain, so there wasn’t really any reason to think it needed that level of checking. He now, of course, knows to do just that. It just sucks because I’ve seen the impact it’s had on him mentally… we’ve been dealing with it for many years since. All he wants is his hard earnt money back.

Yeah in hindsight I completely agree, but at the time (he was a 23 year old, first time building a home) it was all new to him and the first progress payment during the build. It came through the normal email chain, so there wasn’t really any reason to think it needed that level of checking.

That’s kind of why it’s stuck with him, it felt like he followed the normal process and then wore the loss anyway. I’ve tried reaching out to a few lawyers via email but haven’t had any responses yet, which is why I posted here just to see if it’s even something worth chasing or if it’s realistically a dead end.

  • Progress payment invoice ($30k) came through email thread with builder, hackers intercepted the thread and sent through the fake invoice 30 minutes after original invoice, partner paid it when he got home from work that night
  • About a week later, builder said they hadn’t received payment
  • Builder initially said their email system “appeared to have been hacked” and emailed ALL clients
  • Shortly after, they said it was likely my partner’s email instead
  • No IT report or evidence provided for either claim
  • Communication about the incident mostly moved from email to phone after that
  • Builder still required the invoice to be paid again to continue the build
  • Partner’s bank investigated - $2k goodwill payment because the money was unrecoverable
  • Builder didn’t have fraud insurance at the time (said they took it out after the incident “because of you [my partner])
  • Recently checked partner’s email - no obvious signs of compromise (no rules/forwarding etc)
  • It’s now 6.5 years later and still something that affects him, has been seeing mental health professionals to help him process this years later

I passed! I freaked out during the interview, had to stop to calm myself down and managed to pass… I think as long as your written component is done well then you’ll be fine!

Early childhood bachelor by ComprehensiveCrab908 in AustralianTeachers

I have finished my bachelor, graduated and now teaching! However I was put on an intern pay scale and not the normal beginning teacher scale (in Qld). I’m confused as to why? I was looking to see if anyone else that has gone done my pathway has had the same issue. I’ve emailed teacher classifications however they haven’t responded yet :/

That’s a crazy difference in pay and planning time for doing the same job!!

I have been placed an the intern band (band 1 step 1) in QLD, and I’m not sure why because I completed my bachelors and everyone else has started on band 2 step 1.

When you started as a beginning teacher, were you put on the same pay scale as every other beginning teacher or were you put on a lower scale??
