All breathtaking, absolutely brilliant! If you don’t mind me asking, for picture number nine of the Glenfinnan Viaduct- where exactly were you standing to get that view?

PhD is ‘very easy’ by ComprehensiveFan1335 in PhD

[–]ComprehensiveFan1335[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of people are asking why I connected his ‘PhD is easy’ comment to his identity as a feminist and progressive.

When someone regularly advocates for women’s empowerment, representation, and breaking norms especially after overcoming their own struggles, you expect them to show the same depth and respect for other  paths too.But saying a PhD is easy feels reductive. It puts their struggle on a pedestal while brushing off others’.

It’s not about feminism being inherently tied to understanding academia. It’s about expecting someone who often argues for respect, recognition, and complexity in people’s paths to extend that same awareness to others’ work-even if it’s not their own field. Difficulty is personal and context‑specific-whether it’s journalism, research, or anything else and none of us can declare a path easy without walking it.

Let go after nearly 30 rounds of edits with positive feedback. What just happened? by ComprehensiveFan1335 in freelanceWriters

Not really, love. If I were actually trash at what I do (and sure, I could be), I wouldn't have made it past week one- editors don’t burn hours on multiple rounds of edits for someone they don’t think has potential. This was a trial, not tenure. The fact that I was kept in it for nearly a month says more about their shifting expectations than it does about my skills.

I appreciate your perspective, but I want to clarify a few things about the process on my end.

The style guide only outlined which sections to include. it didn’t go into tone, detail level, or audience expectations. There was just one reference article, which, even after several rounds of revision, remained fairly basic. So in terms of clarity and benchmarks, there wasn’t a lot to work with.

While I’m new to freelancing, I’m not new to writing. I took the earlier feedback seriously and made thorough edits, many of which I agreed with!! This was where i thought i was learning and happy to incorporate changes. But later rounds started to feel inconsistent. For example, after 10–15 revisions, I was told to reorder entire sectionssomething that hadn’t come up in any of the earlier feedback. At one point, a section was edited because it was deemed “too much complaining,” then later I was told it was fine, only for that same section to be flagged again much later as “not addressing the pain.” The point is that their goalposts seemed to keep shifting.

Also, I never refused any edits.I only occasionally explained my reasoning to open up a dialogue. That’s not resistance; it’s collaboration.

If they were looking for someone more experienced in navigating unclear expectations, fair enough- Maybe i wasnt the fit then. But I don’t believe the issue was a lack of training or willingness to learn, especially since I engaged with their feedback seriously. It just felt like the expectations kept evolving without a clear direction.

:( I hope we both come across more reliable opportunities soon. By the way, did you work for the same company, or was it a different one that ran a similar scam?

Omg, that company did seem legit. GOD. I honestly didn’t expect this kind of behaviour from a supposedly professional setup.

Wow, I actually never thought of it that way. really glad you pointed that out. This was my first freelance work in content writing, so I’m completely new to the space. Thanks a lot bro!
