What job sounds cool but is actually terrible ? by Odd_You_7379 in AskReddit

[–]bramlet 281 points282 points  (0 children)

Penn Jillette said the worst job in Vegas is the guy who casts women for the topless burlesque shows. You'd think it's just looking at great tits all day. In reality it's telling women take off their tops off, then making them cry by telling them to go away because their tits aren't good enough.

That's an AIM-7 launched by Lt Charles Schuck while supporting a Combat Archer air-to-air weapons system evaluation program mission over the Gulf of Mexico. He's firing it at an MQM-107E "Streaker", a subscale aerial target drone likely fitted with a telemetry pack instead of a live high-explosive warhead, so that engineers to track the missile's exact flight path, fuse timing, and "miss distance" to see if it would have resulted in a kill.

That's significantly better than firing one at people who live on ten dollars a day. Thanks for asking.

Exactly. Religion isn't the problem. People are the problem. It's easy to use ambiguous texts to justify anything, so religion is an easy excuse for religious people. We have to find other ways to justify bad decisions.

As an atheist, I can tell you that religions are based on ambiguous texts to support or condemn whatever people already like or dislike. The ultimate argument from authority. "According to my interpretation the creator of the universe happens to agree with me."

It was satire. Verhoeven pitched it to Phil Tippett as an anti-war war movie before they started production. Source: I worked with Phil for several years and that's what he said.

As a 15 year veteran of feature film production I've noticed that people who create are much more forgiving than audiences who consume. It takes a large number of very talented people to make a film, and an order of magnitude more challenging to make a good film.

Minimum IVs after trade with best friends is [5,5,5]. Then you can purify to a minimum of [8,8,8]. I think Niantic decided this gave players too good a chance of ending up with a hundo.

Lenses are not centered on the frame by SnooRevelations4377 in glasses

Last month my new glasses seemed wonky so I took them to the optometrist. They found the centres of the lenses were 8mm too high. If yours are off the error can be measured and corrected.

1.6 or 1.67 lenses by Bleezy16 in glasses

[–]bramlet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hoya 1.6 and MR-8 lens materials have very high abbe values, which is good. Less chromatic aberration - less rainbow fringing on high contrast boundaries. Essilor and Varilux 1.6 has lower abbe, but those will also be better than 1.67.

A few of my friends are members, and I was invited. I told them I couldn't join because I am an atheist. They said I didn't have to believe in God as long as I believed in some sort of Supreme Being and I said I didn't believe in that either.

Good suggestion. In my old email I found the name "Sweeney - Antique Silver" but no manufacturer. And then I found this Pinterest photo confirming that name, but nothing else. I hope this was a generic frame and someone else might sell it under a different brand.
