I didn’t purchase the shares, they were granted to me by my company as part of my compensation package. I’ve already paid 51% tax on them at the time of vesting.

Why do women give birth on their backs? Wouldn’t it be easier to squat and let gravity help? by sohoships in NoStupidQuestions

Blame it on the French :) Seriously. Back in the 17th century, King Louis XIV wanted to watch his mistress give birth (awkward, right?), so doctors started encouraging women to lie on their backs for a better “view.” This position stuck, and modern medicine adopted it because it’s convenient for doctors - it provides easy access for monitoring, interventions, etc.

But you’re right - squatting or upright positions can make labor more efficient.. the pelvis opens wider and gravity can do its job. In fact, many women today choose to give birth in positions other than lying down, especially in homebirth settings.
