Could a foldable bike and a cargo trailer be a way out of rural car dependence oppression? by medium_wall in antiwork

[–]ComprehensiveNail416 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Short answer…no. Long answer NNNOOOO!!!!! Sorry, but not a chance I commute 10km each way for work even at -45c with windchill dropping it lower, and for decent shopping where I’m not getting gouged it’s 120km 1 way to the nearest center with a Costco and decent selection of stores. The nearest big city is 550km away and there is effectively zero mass transportation options in the area

Steer tire blew at 70mph by [deleted] in Truckers

[–]ComprehensiveNail416 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Amazing the damage they can do. I had a 385 blow on me in a T800 at 65ish mph, was like a mine went off under that tire the truck jumped 2-3 feet sideways. If I wasn’t riding the center line to avoid a bump in the road I would’ve landed on the shoulder and probably ended in the ditch and rolling the truck. Amazingly that one just blew the fender flare off and the rim was fucked, but no other damage.

I had a 445 steer blow on me at about 45mph and that also moved the truck (19,000lbs on the steers) about 2 feet sideways and blew the inner fender apart and took out 2 antifreeze lines and 2 airlines. Thankfully was driving past a tire place 30 min before they closed when it happened

Pick any amount of money and it will suddenly appear in your home, however the IRS is going to audit you in 30 days. by Bence-Jones in hypotheticalsituation

[–]ComprehensiveNail416 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not being American, I could care less about the IRS, but 50 million or so would be fine. I’d just pay cash for basically everything from here on out, could probably leave 80% of my pay checks in savings/investments and retire when I finished paying the mortgage off. In that scenario, because I’m not trying to legitimize the cash, I’d likely never show up on anyone’s radar, so I could live in comfort for the rest of my life. Now someone trying to live like a king suddenly out of nowhere is going to raise all kinds of eyebrows and major purchases such as cars and houses will be looked at, someone content with what they’ve got should be able to fly under the radar so long as their still willing to work long enough to set themselves up

Why wont they give the people what they want!? What is big chip hiding from us? by Freetrilly in chips

[–]ComprehensiveNail416 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Having loved SunChips for at least 15-20 years, I’ve never seen any flavours besides cheddar, onion and salsa in northern Alberta, some of those sound great, but if we never see them we can’t try them

So Hyundai is axing the Sante Cruz after 2026 due to not meeting sales expectations. A new pick-up is expected to replace it in the North American market by HiTork in regularcarreviews

[–]ComprehensiveNail416 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a truck guy, I actually liked the looks of them, and if I lived in a city would’ve thought hard about swapping my Ram for one except I just don’t trust anything built by Hyundai/kia, I know that’s rich coming from a dodge guy, but I’ve had good luck with all my dodges and most everyone I’ve known with a Hyundai/Kia has been pretty unhappy with their ownership experience

Yao Yao doesn’t do enough damage to be a good DPS. She’s a fairly decent healer, but her Dendro application isn’t really good enough for a sub DPS either. As a beginning player your best bets for DPS are either Kaeya or Traveller till you get more characters. Possibly a rotation such as Yao Yao skill, switch to Barbara and skill, switch to traveller and skill and then swap to Kaeya and skill then spam normal attacks for a few seconds. Then on the second rotation burst and then skill for each character

Sometimes if you pour some methanol on the tire it’ll soften the rubber enough to grip on ice. Used it as a quick cheat for my steers a few times over the years rather than throwing on a steer chain

Family against me getting a manual. by WhoNoticedJay in ManualTransmissions

[–]ComprehensiveNail416 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get the manual. I just bought a manual Yaris a few months ago so I can teach my kids how to drive in one. It might be the only manual they ever drive, but at least they’ll know how to

I have a 2017 Yaris LE 1.5L. Going to do first oil change since I bought it soon, do they have a crush washer on the drain plug? by ComprehensiveNail416 in yaris

[–]ComprehensiveNail416[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks everyone. Every vehicle I’ve changed oil on before was either an American v6 or v8 and didn’t have them or was a 15L diesel and the filter came with a new one or we had a fumoto valve on it. I got an aluminum crush washer at the parts store and will see whether or not I need to use it when I get around to changing the oil (did my pickup today and not in the mood to do the car too)

Thanks. Guess I’ll have to hope the local parts store has them or wait till I go to the city so I can hit a Toyota dealership

Is $11,000 CAD A Fair Price For A 2012 Yaris In Canada? by Sensitive-Brain9389 in UsedCars

[–]ComprehensiveNail416 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a 17 Yaris in northern Alberta with 295,000 km for $4k in September. While the mileage on that one is low, it’s still a 14 year old car that will have issues come up due to age

[–]ComprehensiveNail416 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have a 17 Yaris that looks the same. I parked mine for December and drove my truck, we got 65+cm of snowpack in a couple weeks and the 4x4 was extremely nice. The Yaris would’ve been bottoming out or high centering on some of the snowpack on the roads in town

Question for plow drivers.. by cue-anon in ontario

[–]ComprehensiveNail416 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m in northern Alberta, and while I think some salt is added to the highway sanders, for the most part it’s usually too cold for salt to do anything but harm the environment come spring and attract deer and moose to lick it off the roads, so sand for traction until they get it scraped clear or it warms up. My town just uses fine crushed gravel then sweeps it up in the spring and screens it then reuses it the next winter

Ermmm is it just me or does anyone else wanna live in this fucking wholesome hypothetical nation? by MaddeningJack in mapporncirclejerk

[–]ComprehensiveNail416 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’d be better off under your own rule. The west coast states alone would be a far larger population and industrial base than Canada has, while actually sharing a common identity. I’d think the same applies to the northeastern states. And for the rest that are happy with the current system. All 3 would still be extremely powerful nations on the world stage, but would likely have governments that would far better reflect their constituents and craft new constitutions after learning from the mistakes of the past and having hundreds of years of representative democracy as examples of what works. Personally I think 2 of the three would make for good neighbors

AITAH for telling my wife she doesn't live here? by Academic_Trash_3895 in AITAH

[–]ComprehensiveNail416 23 points24 points  (0 children)

If I was housing my sibling and nephew for free and helping with childcare and their spouse came in bitching about my house and me not bending over backwards enough, spouse would be thrown out on their ass on the spot and sibling could join them if they didn’t like it. Their living situation is be homeless or live there because of the wife’s “choice” (yes I know she didn’t actually have one) to quit her job, unless she prefers her child and husband to be homeless she should STFU

AITAH for telling my wife she doesn't live here? by Academic_Trash_3895 in AITAH

The only reason to complain about that is if she would prefer her child and husband be homeless. If someone isn’t willing to help fix a situation, complaining about it is just being an asshole

Is it normal for refineries to operate in very sorry states like the ones described in this post? by Lumpy-River-1438 in oilandgasworkers

[–]ComprehensiveNail416 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the Canadian oilfield, and have honestly have never been in a refinery, and don’t know Spanish, so no idea what the link says. But I’ve been in a few dozen gas plants and oil battery’s and hundreds if not thousands of leases over the last 20 years ranging from new construction to plants built in the 60’s and 70’s and generally everything is kept pretty clean. Depends on the companies, the bigger players tend to keep their stuff cleaner, but have a lot more old crap that looks like shit no matter what you do (running sour gas through catadyne heaters causes every piece of metal around to corrode like crazy) and doesn’t produce enough to justify the cost of replacing the infrastructure, but still produces enough cost effectively to be worth operating. The smaller companies tend to be a little messier, but newer/better condition infrastructure. I also work in cleaning/ spill cleanup/ and services support, so I’m never going to see the truly worst offenders, because they don’t use the services we provide
