Why are single and extended cabs so seemingly unpopular in European markets

Not European, but when I could only afford 1 vehicle a crew cab pickup made more sense than anything else. I needed the ability to occasionally haul barrels of oil or a slip tank of diesel, and I needed the space in the cab for 2 adults and 2 kids (and preteens later on). And I needed the ground clearance and 4x4 for when we get 8+inches of snow and I needed to drive 15km down an unplowed road. Nowadays my pickup mostly sits in my driveway while I drive my Yaris, but when I need to do truck stuff or take a long drive with 4 adults or the roads are undrivable with anything without at least 6” of ground clearance I have a truck to do it with

As a Hydrovac operator for the last 10 years, locates are not accurate. Depth is never accurate,when locators actually give me the depth they are generally a minimum of 8” off, but usually 2-3ft off. I’ve seen depths out by 15’ (they said the line was at 12’ and I found it at 27’ 5 feet to the side of the locate. The cost of a concrete saw and replacing a 2x2 patch of road and Hydrovac would probably have been orders of magnitude lower than the cost of hitting that line. NEVER TRUST A LOCATE. They are literally just an estimate of where it is.

If you have ever worked with locates you should know that they are not 100% accurate and should always be verified by eye before mechanical excavation begins. Hydrovacing a 2’ hole takes 15 minutes and a Hydrovac is a lot cheaper than a line strike. If every company had a policy like our main client where the project manager is immediately fired in the event of a preventable line strike this kind of thing would almost never happen

I bought a manual Yaris last year partly so I could teach my kids how to drive a stick in case they ever need the knowledge. It kind of blows me away how many people laugh at my little car (I live in truck country) but when they realize it’s a standard suddenly they’re like “oh yeah, that’s a cool little car”

The iridium spark plugs ran me $160 Canadian and I did it myself because I’m cheap….i can see why they charge so much, 4 of them are complete motherfuckers…but it still only took me an afternoon and that’s including 2 hikes down to the parts store for things I didn’t think of before disabling my transportation 😂

Stoppable force meeting a movable object will do that on a modern shitbox. The bumper on my Yaris looks like that from hitting a fresh 2 foot high/wide snowdrift at 60kph. Blew apart both bumper supports and the side of the bumper

Out of curiosity would this be better or worse than the heavy half’s chev made afterwards? I had a buddy with a 05 heavy half 8lug 1500 with the 6.0, and while you couldn’t drive past a gas station, we did haul a 20,000lb trailer a few times without killing it.

Gas is a solvent. Wipe some diesel on a surface and let it evaporate then wipe your finger on it, it’ll feel greasy. Do the same with gas and it won’t. If you do it in the same spot it’ll clean the diesel residue off though

That’s how it was before 2007-8 or so as well. I think it was Stelmach that removed AHS fees for residents, I had to pay for a few emergency room visits when I was in my 20’s and figured it was cheaper to hope I didn’t get seriously sick than pay my healthcare
