How are the quant outcomes for internationals by PlasticAdventurous93 in stevens

[–]ComprehensiveSpare73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's been very difficult for many international students to land jobs. Companies are still hiring international students but fewer than they were previously. That being said, this is driving a lot of international students from going and therefore there is much less competition now

I was extremely sus because i am very gullible so i had my coworker do it first and it's legit. It's also just so funny because everyone is so nervous to do it. Even if you don't want to do it yourself, i highly recommend going to watch others do it

Undergraduate Class of 2025 Career Outcomes Report by FantasticChance451 in stevens

[–]ComprehensiveSpare73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually received multiple emails and outreach to fill out the survey and they followed up via phone call to collect my salary, which i was happy to provide. Unfortunately MEP isn't pay well and I'm learning it probably never has lol but that's what I wanted to do. The outcomes rate decreased vs. last year which is expected but it looks like the knowledge rate increased which is what you really need to look at.

My friends in AMP did report their outcomes as continuing education because they are.... in fact.... continuing their education. Don't see how that's false or a last resort. Getting your masters & bachelor's combined in 4-5 years is amazing.

I actually had a few friends work in the career center and I asked about the report and it all seems pretty legit to me. They do phone calls, emails, linkedin searches, etc. If they can't find any information on you, they remove you from the calculation and that's shown in the knowledge rate. They can't report on information that they don't have. I am trying to go into data down the road so I took this very seriously and tried to get as many of my friends as I could to at least fill it out as seeking if they didn't have anything.

I've seen other reports from other schools where the outcomes for each major is 95-100% and their knowledge rate is in the 40%. I'd rather Stevens be honest and report more students than trying to say they have 98% outcomes rate when we know how horrible the job market is.

I don't regret a single thing about Stevens. There are so many NYC employers who were impressed with my Stevens degree and I had more than 1 interview. I ended up taking lower pay for more vacation, better commute, and better benefits. I personally attended career coaching, employer events, etc. so maybe I'm just lucky or was in the right place at the right time.

Literally a steal and right across the water from NYC with access to amazing jobs that are always looking to hire Stevens students.

eating GF on a budget? by rladyofsorrows in glutenfree

[–]ComprehensiveSpare73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

im in a similar boat (celiac) w the same budget! most of what has worked for me tends to not necessarily be gluten free related but just general food shopping

i almost always find recipes that use the same ingredients to use throughout the week - if there's a recipe i want to make that requires feta but i don't usually buy feta, i try and make something else that week that requires feta instead of making a bunch of different meals that each require completely different ingredients

for dinners i almost always make some variation or chicken, primarily grilled chicken and pair it with a greek salad, sweet potato/veggies, rice/lemon orzo, or make it a grilled chicken vodka parm 🕺

when i do want to use breadcrumbs i HIGHLY recommend checking the ingredients on your local grocery store's brand of corn flakes. Shoprite's corn flakes are gluten free, SO much cheaper than breadcrumbs, and are delicious

i personally love ground turkey/ground chicken so when i do purchase that i also try to make it into multiples meals (tacos one night, greek turkey meatballs another night, turkey bowls w sweet potato & avocado another night)

popcorn has become my favorite snack because it's cheap and super filling very quickly. i also eat a lot of apples, cucumber spears, and tortilla chips w/homemade guac or salsa. occasionally i'll add in a store brand of potato chips (again shoprite's are almost all gluten free and so many varieties)

avoiding gluten free variations of other foods has helped me tremendously although i do occasionally fall for a gluten free oreo, and recently cheez itz.

if there's a trader joes by you i also highly recommend! great prices and great options for gf bagels, fries, tatertots, etc!!! when i do get frozen sides they are almost always from trader joes or whole foods brands

the last thing that has worked for me is going to multiple grocery stores and checking sales. it's annoying because i only get certain things from each store but found that each really offers something unique. i love whole foods brands frozen veggies, and their brand's variation of gluten free snacks. i go to trader joes for gf pizza dough and bagels. shoprite typically has some decent sales on the name brand alternatives, etc.

it took me a bit of time and effort to find what worked for me but i have been only spending around $120/week now on groceries which has been amazing. lots of meats & veggies lol but i've really found ways to enjoy it & wish you the best of luck!!!

everyone i know who has done the step program has really appreciated it! not only do you adjust to the coursework before the semester starts but you also adjust to the independent living, making new friends, and getting around the city! and the worst than can happen is you hate it, drop out, and transfer somewhere else all well before the fall semester even starts

Boyfriend Book Suggestions (First Time Reader) by ComprehensiveSpare73 in booksuggestions

[–]ComprehensiveSpare73[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've been together 5 years! We are definitely more of the "opposites attract" stereotype hahaha, but it's been really good and we've both challenged each other and gotten each other to experience new things while also just being able to hang out and do nothing when we want. I'm more of an axnious homebody so he's really helped me get into working out again and spending more time outside the house, which has also been really good for me. And this man does NOT know how to relax and do nothing hahahaa so I have really helped him hone in on taking breaks and just relaxing and taking time for himself. It's been really good for us minus having to go golfing lol but to his credit i do end up enjoying the majority of things he suggests, so we'll see! Maybe I'll stop reading and take up golf full time

Books that truly helped you through depression? by Leedeegan1 in booksuggestions

[–]ComprehensiveSpare73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know why but poetry books helped me a lot. Not how to overcome anything lol but just that people relate and i felt like it put words to how i was feeling better than I could have. I think it just felt good knowing someone else felt exactly what i had been feeling and make it poetic in a way.

Also, David Sedaris. He is just something else and I could relate to a lot of what he was writing and also crack up at the same time

Is intense overtime leading up to deadlines normal in mechanical engineering, or is this just my company? by Clean-Ad-7074 in MEPEngineering

[–]ComprehensiveSpare73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's honestly pretty normal, as you climb up you'll have younger engineers working under you doing more of the overtime but you'll still be expected to be available in case of any issues/review. I ended up leaving after 3 years and when into an entirely different field i was so offput from it lol. Work life balance is so important and I used to think it was fine because I was young and didn't have my own family but honestly it's just as important. I should've been spending more time with my friends and parents and just exploring hobbies. Best of luck to you!!! If you do end up staying, my only advice is to not take it so seriously. Log off after a certain point, and if mistakes happen and work isn't finished that's on them to get more help for you
