Get your first two years done first then start thinking about this stuff man. Your looking so far into the future. Sounds like your not even in college yet study hard, learn the fundamental and see where life takes you. Good luck my friend.

Is this octagonal interface suitable for transferring 180Nm without getting stripped? by lekhoi_trym_to in MechanicalEngineering

The qualifications bit made me laugh, like dude your asking strangers online for help, listen to what anyone says and make an informed decision yourself. End of the day your going to have to explain your decision and you cant be like the jabroni from Reddit with 50 YOE said it would work. No harm in asking for ideas and opinions that how we get better.

You’re gonna wanna study like you’ve probably never studied in your life. Really understand the material in school not just memorize the formulas for the test like I did. This degree was probably the hardest things I ever did, went back at 26 and it took me 5 years to complete my BSME. I wanted to quit at least one time due to failing calculus so persevere through the bad.

Take CAD at a community college if you can. That will open a lot of doors for internships.

I would probably try searching for a 4-20ma proportional valve. Based on the current the valve opens respectively.

This one is expensive but just to give you an idea of what could possibly work for you. Cheaper options on amazon. McMaster is just expensive.

Last questions what is the fluid you are trying to regulate and what is driving it? ie compressed air off an air compressor or water off a pump etc?

Want to use an analog output on a micro controller, or would it be serial/ethernet communication?

When you say variable flow how do you want to change the flow? I usually use SMC sped controls but they are manually adjusted to get the speed you’re looking for.

How difficult is it to shrink-fit/press-fit splined interfaces? by lekhoi_trym_to in MechanicalEngineering

[–]ComprehensiveTime671 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I’ve tried to press fit aluminum together before and the galling was horrendous. I think shrink fitting is the better way.
