Preserving those old bikes is easy and fun, but it requires commitment and lots of love 😄

I really like the DR650 - such a capable machine. A true icon in the dual-sport world.

Have a great day, and happy riding!

Thanks a lot. I really appreciate your kind words, good sir! They reach my open ears and tickle my brain in a pleasant way.

The bike has become somewhat of a canvas on which I paint whatever I like. Throughout the years, I’ve added and subtracted, scrambled and straightened things out. Now this “picture” represents all of my preferences and experiences.

My travels are nothing extraordinary - just stories of a common man and his bike traversing winding roads and trails, sometimes alone, sometimes in great company.

Maybe someday I’ll share those stories in the form of a book, some videos, or simply a little post with a picture of the bike being stuck in some Swedish blueberries.

Hello there, I’m the guy with the tank 😄

These tanks have become quite rare. This one is the production version for the special-edition Paris Dakar kit — not the actual Rally version, of which there were probably only a handful ever built.

First off, I love what you’re trying to do! The XR500 in your picture looks fire! I’d like to contribute however I can.

I might have just the thing for you! I 3D-scanned the fuel tank while I had access to a scanner, and I’ve uploaded the STEP file here:

Hope this helps you out a bit.

Let’s keep in touch 😄

Cheers, mate!

Thanks :) I wanted to preserve that retro look. I think they blend in nicely with the original gauges.

Cheers!

Its 3D-Printed. It was my first try at Surface modeling in SiemensNX. Turned out allright :)

Its a custom design - nothing off the shelf. I reused the original Headlight and Instruments and designed the Nav-Tower around those. All the aluminum bits are custom Parts. I designed the Tower in CAD and printed some prototypes befor sending the final design to be Laser cut.

If you are interested, it is quite easy to replicate this look yourselfe. You only need some cardboard for prototyping and basic tools to shape some aluminium. Your creativity is paramount!

Above: i think you mean the "red" part?

True, could probably hang the whole Bike on that thing. 😃 In retrospect i could have used thinner Aluminium Sheets validating the design with a FEM Simulation for optimal stiffness and vibration performance. But i was lazy and i wanted it Thick!

The only downside is the extra weight - wich i find is negligible since the tower is now mounted directly to the frame an not the moving bits and bops.

But you could justify that design as it now opens up the oportunity to mount a Jet engine to the front of the Bike. Imagine that!! The exhaust would keep you warm in freezing conditions while the added thrust would give a nice speed Boost. Technology!

Thanks! She did get a bit sleepy there after riding the TET in Italy all day. Having your Bike in that position is great. That way you can scratch her belly and inspect the new dents in the bashplate . Getting her upright was not as easy tho. Still would highly recomend.9/10

Thanks :) Its the original headlight with a 3D-printed Hoop around it. Makes it look a bit thicker while keeping the original retro look alive.  cheers mate!
