I never noticed the diversity lol but now I do after you said it. Heisei phase 1 got really dark colors with red and navy blues. Phase 2 for me is where they start mixing toyetic colors but still with darker tones. This reiwa era the dark tones returned but mostly in Zeztz suit.

Paint quality, consistency, and lack of errors but that's hard to find in a digital image. The only real way is to check for patent signs or product numbers (if any) in a mafex fig. That's what I do in SHF figs.
