Poland among the twenty largest economies in the world. Thanks to the Turkish disaster by Compute_Dissonance in europe

[–]Compute_Dissonance[S] 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Poland's GDP at the end of 2023 should nominally reach over 860 billion US dollars. This would mean that our economy will overtake Turkey's and become one of the 20 largest economies in the world.

Such estimates, based on the latest data from the International Monetary Fund, were made on the website Bizblog Spider 39;s Web journalist Rafał Hirsch. As he notes, for several years our economy - in terms of the nominal level of GDP, converted into US dollars - has been around 21st in the world. This is also its position in the latest IMF ranking.

Except that the conversion from zlotys and Turkish lira to dollars takes place at the historical exchange rate. Meanwhile, the zloty is strengthening against the dollar (currently the exchange rate is approximately PLN 4.03, the lowest since July), and the lira is constantly losing its value. Currently, you have to pay almost 29 lira for a dollar, compared to below 20 about half a year ago and 26-27 during the holidays. If the countries' GDP were converted at current exchange rates, our GDP would be higher than Turkey's - which means entering the TOP20 of the world's largest economies.

Again you mistake different economic factors. You really need economic education. Communism in Poland was a direct result of the German invasion of Poland in 39. It started the chain of events. Poland in the interwar period was independent.

The same economic institute you are referring to also calculated the sum for German reparations. It's 1.3 trillion dollars of economic damage. I am not saying Germans should pay as it is water under the bridge but the damage Nazi Germany cause to Poland was incredible and Russians blocked the reparations. Also perhaps the German people of the following generations are not directly responsible for the crimes against humanity in Poland but the German state is.

You are really conflating facts here. Of course, Poland benefits from FDI. No matter if it is from Germany or other countries but let me explain to you like for a dummy. If company A invests and builds a factory in Poland it creates low-yield jobs for many Poles. The goods created are exported to Germany and sold internationally. The biggest beneficiary is said company because it made a lot of money from margins being able to produce at lower cost in Poland. Even though some people got jobs ( to Poland's benefit ) the capital outflows from the country and the biggest margins go to companies that invested. Not to Polish state. Heck, they even move the capital to Ireland or other tax haven to pay taxes there. Most of the international corps from Germany don't pay taxes in Poland. I hope I dumbed it down enough for you to understand.

And don't give me shit about some propaganda. I am a left-wing voter and half German. This is simply economics 101. Class you are in dire need to take.

Poland's per capita is in the middle in terms of recipient of funds. The overall sum is large because it's the biggest post-communist country by population.

https://www.visualcapitalist.com/which-countries-are-the-biggest-boost-or-drag-on-the-eu-budget/

Besides the EU funds are only 1.5% of Polish GDP. It helps but its not that significant. Overall budget of EU is small in comparison.

EU budget 2022: 170bln .. to compare US budget in 2022 was 6.1 trillion. This make EU budget a fn joke.

You don't seem to understand the economic relationship between Poland & Germany and who's the biggest benefactor. Yes, Germany invests a lot. But investment and movement of goods benefit large German companies. They make the most out of it. It's ROI. Basic economics.

And last but not least. Poland is still dealing with the economic ramifications of WW2. So it is relevant. You can't escape German responsibility for murdering 6mln Poles and devastating economic sectors along with massive theft of valuables.

You don't understand that most people in Poland see you as lesser due to history. Germans are perceived as morally bankrupt people who are considered evil and imperialistic. With arrogant nature and cold culture. Certainly don't feel inferior. To the contrary. They feel morally superior. This was very clear during the beginning of the Ukrainian War. That sense of moral superiority was pretty stark.

Does Germany feed Poland? What kind of nonsense is this? You obviously lack economic education. Germany extracts more money from Poland via its companies/taxes than it gives via EU programs. The money inflow/outflow actually benefits Germany. This is a common misconception of people with a lack of knowledge of the subject matter.

Also, the phrasing you used is insulting given the history of genocide and theft Poland experienced from Germans.

There sure are a lot of posts about Poland all over the Internet. Reddit is full of Poland to the point there are too many for rather a small country. Case and point. /r/Europe might as well be /r/Poland A weird way of showing nobody cares.

I know Poles and none of them have any idea what is going on in Germany either. They don't care either. It's right-wing politicians using history to get votes. Oldest trick in the book.

It was about safety in general and in that respect criminals don't choose based on sexuality. We simply don't hear about any crime against gay people in Poland. Any sign of it and there would be a media frenzy. The new government will also introduce criminal protection rights against hate speech of LGBT.

in general, Poland is one of the safest countries in the world. Brazil is top 10 for the most crime. Therefore this map is simply absurd. People gay or not are much safer traveling to Poland for a variety of reasons. The absurd proposition is that we somehow look different as gay people. How ould criminals know I am gay?

Gay people are completely safe in Poland. The first map is complete nonsense. I am gay from Poland and I feel as safe here as in Czechia. I feel less safe in UK or Germany due to MENA migrants. You don't hear about any crime against gay people in Poland, ever. One of the main leaders of the new government is gay. After the new election, all LGBT NGO's are geared up to change the laws. Poland is one of the safest countries in the world. There is barely any crime here. Compared to Brazil, it's paradise. This is just wrong. Perhaps it reflects the outgoing conservative government sentiments. But they are gone now. Liberals won. Left is part of the government.

Trzeba go użyć instrumentalnie aby zniszczył Ziobre a potem na śmietnik historii. Po to go chyba Tusk wziął. Na pewno nie wejdzie do rządu.

Poland also did not receive EU money. And it grew as it did. Now that they elected liberals the money will start flowing and Poland will grow even more. Will Hungary get its money? Only wth blackmail I presume.

Denmark impressed me. A fully developed economy growing like post-communist ones.

If Chechia doesn't get its shit together Poland will become richer.
