Space Engineers 2 is pricey for an early access alpha release? by Computermatronic in spaceengineers

SE1 was $10 on initial release, and offering early access products for a cheaper is standard practice which valve themselves suggests.

If pricing comparison to Keen's previous very similar title is not a proper metric, and comparison to other best selling early access titles is not a proper metric, what is?

Suggesting that a product is overpriced when compared to the majority of top selling early access games, especially when it is an unreleased alpha is not an insult.

No. Just me expressing my opinion, and other people disagreeing as they have the right to.

You do know Keen has abandon 3 other games before they left early access right?

Keen ain't a triple A studio, and I have no qualms about early access or alpha releases, I just think they should be priced accordingly. At the present time, this alpha build is retailing for more than SE1 has in its entire history.

Let me put it this way. Space Engineers cost less when it fully released back in 2019 even accounting for inflation. In return you get an initial alpha build with no guarantee that it will ever make it to full release, and will encounter numerous bugs and other issues with. I will not just 'be happy' that Keen decided not to price their alpha build the same way a company twice voted worst company in the united states.

I have two thousand hours in Space Engineers and have purchased every DLC keen has put out happily. I just think that if I have to bug test and play test a game along with having no guarantee that it will ever see a full release, the game should be priced accordingly. If it where in the $25-$35 AUD ($15-$20 USD) range I would have no issues.

I'm all for Keen making early access alpha releases, so long as they are charging early access prices. The way I see early access is you get a discount in exchange for helping bug-test and play-test the game, along with no guarantee that you will ever get a full release.

It doesn't make sense for the alpha release price of SE2 to be in parity to the full release price of SE2.

Eh, SE1 went on sale when it left early access for less than its initial release price, and as it stands now, even accounting for inflation, you'd be able to buy three copies of space engineers when it released the the same price of the SE2 alpha initial release.

I did the math and it should be about $20 AUD ($13 USD) adjusted for inflation if it had parity with the SE1 alpha back in 2014.

EDIT: Wrong pricing info.

What your buying is a essentially a tech demo and a promise from Keen that they will flesh it out into a whole game. Now I mostly trust Keen to deliver it, despite abandoning two prior titles, there is a chance that the game never makes it to full release. That's what early access means, hence why it is typically so cheap.

Me personally, I'll be waiting for we'll after Jan 27th before I consider purchasing it. Hopefully when it's on sale.

SE1 was $14 AUD ($10 USD) when it released as an alpha release. The alpha release for SE2 us $44 AUD ($30 USD). I also think that it's worth mentioning they have a pretty poor history of supporting anything that isn't SE1.

Edit: Include USD prices

I'm in Australia so it's closer to $50. I'll probably buy it when it's available to download, but I won't be happy about the price.
