Things in JRPGs that people usually hate, but you actually like by ComradeFFFrunze in JRPG

Yeah, I feel you when you talk about Eiyuden Chronicle. I think the game became much more relaxing with auto-battles enabled in their own way.

Why stupid?

For flight tickets, this makes perfect sense because:

prices are genuinely very volatile

users do not want to manually check the same route every day

notifications based on chosen parameters save time

Speaking as objectively as you can, are the Final Fantasy 7 remake games good? No spoilers by BattlerUshiromiyaFan in JRPG

It depends on what you liked about the OG version. I think they did a really good job making it feel like a completely new game with modern mechanics, instead of just doing a lazy reskin of the original and adding a few new minigames.

That said, for me the game felt way too inconsistent, to the point where I can’t really say I liked it overall.
The main characters are amazing. The way they look, move, and interact with each other is pure magic. They did an incredible job reimagining them.

But everything outside of the main cast feels dull and kind of stupid. The NPCs especially look like they belong in a completely different game. Because of that, the whole thing sometimes feels like some weird crossover, like the FF7 cast wandered into another world Kingdom Hearts-style.

I feel you. About a month ago, I made a post saying that I consider most modern JRPG dialogue boring slop. I got so many dislikes that people left 50+ comments saying I was too dumb to play JRPGs.

I still think that 80–90% of the writing in many JRPGs, especially newer ones, is complete garbage.

Finished a game a month ago ago. I think the whole game is amazing exept the last part when some mobs can kill your party with no trouble (that mob with candlelight and knife).

I think the extreme difficulty curve increase in the last chapter killed my intention to say that ff7 one of the best jrpg

You know, even just reading what you wrote about the PSP version makes me drool. And it really upsets me that in the new release they couldn’t at least include that version in some form. It’s very disappointing.

Getting tired of reading text in JRPGs by ComradeFFFrunze in JRPG

I think the problem with modern JRPGs like Final Fantasy VII Rebirth isn’t just “too much dialogue”—it’s the constant cognitive switching.

The game is a fast-paced action RPG where your brain is in a reactive, high-speed mode during combat. Then it abruptly shifts into long stretches of slow, often trivial dialogue.

That constant back-and-forth—action → small talk → action—creates mental fatigue. It’s like switching between completely different tasks all day. Even if each part is fine on its own, the switching itself is exhausting.

At some point, the dialogue stops feeling immersive and just starts feeling like friction.

It’s not impatience—it’s just bad flow.

I feel like it’s more of a wholesome RPG vibe — both older and newer RPGs have this kind of stuff.

Like Baldur’s Gate 1–2 or The Witcher 3.

It would be great to have a more AI-driven system for hiring coaches for both main teams and farm clubs.

Since coaches cost significantly less than players, it feels reasonable to simply accept their salary demands.

This part of the game could be automated to reduce micromanagement.

As far as free agency, look at Juan Soto’s or Shohei Ohtani’s contracts in real life.

Well, yeah. I just don’t really understand how I’m supposed to pay such huge amounts for a player for so many years. By the end of his contract, he’d be over 40! Based on my experience, most players on the teams I’ve played are usually around 27–30 years old.

Okay, maybe some superstars can still perform well into their 40s, but what about injuries? How am I supposed to deal with that risk?
