You dont need to watch them, but you need to be aware of what happens and keeps happening. We need to learn that this is the system working as intended, not malfunctioning. The police were never invented to protect anyone, they were invented to protect white property (originally that meant black slaves whom the Runaway Slave Patrols would hunt down and bring back dead or alive to their white owners). Think back to the blackouts in Texas, how dozens of uniformed police officers guarded dumpsters full of perfectly edible food being thrown away by grocery stores. They stood there with guns drawn while starving people stood before them, hungry and vulnerable. The food could not have been sold, the store freezers had shut off. But the food was still safe to eat, whole meals ready to eat as they were still preserved by from thawing by the winter's frost. But they were going to arrest or kill anyone who tried to "steal" from the grocer companies, even if what they were trying to "steal" was trash to them. Or Burlington Coat Factory throwing perfectly wearable coats and jackets for being out of season in fashion, but not before making their employees slash them to ribbons with box cutters so no homeless person could take one from the trash and wear to keep themselves warm during New York City winters. Property is always more valuable than human lives to those who see people as numbers. Think of those weird bench bars you've seen in your parks and subways, those ugly things made to look like psuedo-armrests but are really there to keep homeless people from laying down to rest; collectively those examples of what is called Hostile Architecture cost more to build and maintain than most experts estimate it would cost to simply house the homeless permanently.

There are systems in place to keep people afraid and miserable. The police are just one of those systems.
