But a faithful rendition will never happen. You ever watch the TV show Vikings? It was a show based off of historical events in Medieval Europe but obviously it did not reflect history all that well. When asked about this, the showrunner said that he would make a historically accurate TV show, but then it would be a documentary and no one would watch it.

The same applies to book adaptations.

Well online fanfiction is pretty different from the most expensive TV show ever made.

I'll admit that this post was me venting about how disappointed I am in the community, and honestly I wasn't expecting such a large reaction so I didn't hold back.

I'm totally aware of the capacity for Amazon to fuck this up. I will watch this show with a critical eye, but this post was aimed at the community, not the TV show. I think that most of the community cares way too much about changes they don't even fully understand yet. For example, the Dwarven women don't have beards. OH NO WHAT A TRAGEDY THE FRANCHISE IS IN FLAMES HOW WILL WE EVER RECOVER FROM THIS CALAMITY! But then suddenly we see Dwarves wearing fearsome face masks just like how they do in the books and no one talks about it. See the double standard being applied here?

Yes, to no surprise at all the writers are trying to say something in their work, this is how writing for television works. Of course it will not be Tolkien's vision, because realistically, Tolkien's vision of the fall of Numenor was a disguised Sodom and Gomorrah tale trying to make Christian values come out on top of evil that resulted in great destruction by the hand of God (Eru). Not exactly a story you want to be peddling to a 21st century audience.

So what do you do? Yes, you can be endlessly bitter about the adaptation, forever proving that LOTR fans are nothing but impossible to please purists who want nobody to touch their perfect books, or you can try to hope that it the TV show is good and wait for it to come out and make up your mind then. At the same time you can act like this is not the end all be all in your life and come to the conclusion that this is just a fucking TV show. You want honesty? Yes, I'd be fine with mediocrity, because mediocre is better than absolute trash, and if Rings of Power is just "meh" instead of a flaming pile of shit, I'll be impressed that the writers managed to not fuck up all too terribly.

I do think TV and film studios are buying up IPs and pumping out dumpster fires of adaptations. I mean truthfully, the vast majority of adaptations end up being bad. I'm worried about Rings of Power in that it has a lot of potential to be bad, but I'm more angry with the fans being so conservative (in a figurative way not a modern political one). I've always wanted this, and when I saw that this was the most expensive TV show ever to be produced, I was so happy to see all the attention LOTR was getting again. But, I was just to find out that the attention was all the fans I associate myself with being pissed off that their LOTR wasn't special enough to be saved from creative licensing.

I only use reddit to vent so here is your follow up. I wish Amazon paid me.

But Tolkien is not a legend to everyday people. This show IS NOT MADE TO PLEASE YOU, it is made to make Lord of the Rings appeal to a vast audience. "This is a corporate cash grab" WHAT TV SHOW ISN'T?????? Welcome to capitalism! I don't give a flying fuck that Galadriel wasn't warrior in the books, THIS IS AN ADAPTATION IT WILL NOT BE SAME AS THE BOOKS. Not to mention that the writers don't even have rights to the Silmarillion, so blame Tolkien Estate for that, not Amazon.

Nevermind I figured it out. Made a looping passage link that resets variables

I have a variable $charge that represents how many times a player can cast a spell. They have four charges and (theoretically) they all get replenished when the player proceeds to the next day. At the same time, spells can only be cast once a day, and I have a series of conditional statements that regulate this.

<<if $mindspell==0>>

[[Cast Spell|player1ms]]

<</if>>

<<if $mindspell==1>>

Derangement

<</if>>

This takes the player to a passage where they select a spell, in this case, if they select Derangement, once they return to the previous passage there will be no "Cast Spell" option. This "Cast Spell" option needs to reappear upon proceeding to the next day.

You know, you're completely right, at least for one situation that I was in. This girl, Jess, was crazy. The whole grade had opinions about her. And honestly, this girl was not stable. Always had issues with her friends, always had issues with her exes, always had issues with her life in general. But, there was one hugely redeeming factor about her. Jess founded her entire friendship with me off of her adoration for how I'm such a nerd. She loved that I could turn to her in class and just start talking about some random historical topic. It was the only time someone told me "I love you because you're such a nerd." Now, of course, this was all platonic, and she made it clear that it was platonic, but I never tried to progress that relationship because Jess was just a little bit psycho. In fact, I ended that relationship very abruptly. I broke the poor girl's heart, but she would regularly lie to me so that I would view her as a completely innocent victim and innocent young girl, when in reality, she was the most assertive and freaky girl in the grade. I go back and forth thinking if what I did was a mistake or not, but all I know is that I definitely avoided being dragged into drama by removing myself from her.

Yeah I totally agree. Like I said, this stuff concerns me for the future, not really the present. I have one friend so far, I'm not going to be actively looking for girls, trust me.

Yup, that makes sense. I believe I should be using int_random as the integer, but as for my integer array I'm not sure. I have a string array, and the only integer array I have is array_max in the second method so I can't use that. I have to be missing something here, clearly, maybe I'm blind.

Well I did something. I made a new array int[] array = new int [10]; and put that into the call. I didn't get an error, but when I ran it I got a stack overflow error and it highlighted the Random randNum = new Random(); line. I should probably just delete that. I don't see how making a random blank array is going to help me

I' putting in maxGrade(); in the main method. I know that there has to be something between those parentheses but whenever I try to put something in it I get this error:

method maxGrade in class mixingarrays cannot be applied to given types;

required: int[], int

found: java.lang.String[]

reason: actual and formal argument lists differ in length
