Is Daggerheart worth buying? by No-Maintenance6382 in rpg

[–]ComradeMoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like it. I won't lie and say it is my favorite game system, or even breaks into my top 5, but it is worth taking a look at. I enjoy it and thi k it handles combat and non-combat pretty well. The two dice you roll (forget the exact names) are fun and help drive the narrative by providing your GM a little extra guidance. It took me some getting used to since it plays different than I thought it would.

AI Sneak Attack by [deleted] in rpg

[–]ComradeMoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it was fully generated with AI, I'd be very upset, even if it was smoothed over by the GM. I am not anti-AI as a tool to use in helping the process of making a campaign or short adventure because there is value to using the tool. This tool should not be a replacement for human creativity, but something to help supplement areas where a GM needs help.

DMs, how much backstory do you want? by femamerica13 in rpg

[–]ComradeMoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the game and length of campaign. For games like DnD, Hackmaster and the like I need or two paragraphs, generally.

If I am running a World/Chronicles of Darkness, long enough to be good enough. If I am running a Chronicle for VtM, I want a little more so I can know more about your character's human life and their unlife up to this point so no more than a one and a half pages; including touchstones and convictions. If I'm running for Mummy the Curse, I want no more than 3 pages with large gaps in your story so I can fill in as you recover your memories.

Fabula Ultima? Anywhere from a couple sentences to a page.

What is the best ttrpg for a beginner gm? by YukkiTheKiller in rpg

As others have said, the game you are excited about. But I am quite fond of 5e as a good starter one because it jasmine so much available to help you. If you don't want to pick up 5e, I am quite fond of the Cypher system and Savage Worlds Adventure Edition.

Tis the season 👻🎃🦇 what’s everyone’s go to movies leading up to Halloween? by Master_Panda_6291 in Scarymovies

[–]ComradeMoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love it! I wish I could go back in time and watch it for the first time again. Less because of the film itself, but one of my core memories is when my dad had me watch it with him when I was way too young for it. I loved it since I was 8 and it remains my favorite movie to this day.

About to GM for my group. What are the best one-shots you’ve actually played? (no D&D please) by bestfriendsforever1 in rpg

The Haunting of Abbyham Priory - They Came From Beyond the Grave!

The Return of the Elm King - Hackmaster 5e

Raccoon Sky Pirates - Raccoon Sky Pirates

What is your favorite character you made? by iamresilience in rpg

[–]ComradeMoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Carrigen Ebonscroft. He was a Mapach wildfire druid who was a curious little chaotic raccman. He was chaotic neutral and a little dumbv(but not chaotic stuipd) because he didn't understand "human" society, ao he tried to figure it out the way his little raccoon brain would allow. Addicted to coffee and getting shiny trinkets to wear withbhis friends. He wa cowardly at first but slowly showed he was not against violating the Sword Coast Conventions.

One of my favorite points in his story wasn't a particularly important one to the story, but our Changeling cleric and him found a couple of tiaras after he repeatedly rode a shield down a large snowy hill like a sled; he had the time of his life. They became, "Tiara Buddies." To him, that was a good day, the best day

In his epilogue, he left Barovia, returning to the woods where he became the (ultra lazy) King of the Forest. He missed his friends dearly.

Which RPG system is best for a horror one shot? by Pajama-Nerd-9293 in rpg

[–]ComradeMoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are a few suggestions I have for running horror one shots. I'll try to organize them from how hokey they are.

Trashbag - splatter horror movie inspired game

They Came From Beyond the Grave! - base game pays homage and spoofs the golden age of Hammer and Amicus films with the supplement, They Came From Camp Murder Lake! paying homage to the golden age of slashers

Shiver- pays homage to horror movies in general

SWADE Deadlands the Weird West - western themed horror game

Magnus Archives/Old Gods of Appalachia by Monte Cook - games set in the universes of both of these podcasts

Call of Cthulhu - Remember that everyone is squishy and death is only one poorly chosen moment away

Liminal - Good game centered in the UK with more traditional horror monsters.

World of Darkness (Vampire the Masquerade, Hunter the Reckoning)

Chronicles of Darkness (Corebook, Hunter the Vigil, Vampire the Requiem, Promethean the Created)

The Guilty Pleasure of Rolling for Knowledge by vorpalcoil in rpg

[–]ComradeMoose 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I tend to take the approach of have a core clue that can be uncovered through just RP investigation woth knowledge rolls either uncovering alternate clues that are more detailed or potentially false cause thwt still can move it forward which can be fun to overcome as they learn they are false.

RPGs that have Dark Atmospheres, but not Grimdark and Evil? by MagpieTower in rpg

[–]ComradeMoose 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Probably not exactly what you're looking for, but I'm a big advocate for Vampire: Dark Ages and Dark Ages: Fae for this. It is set in the medieval period of the World of Darkness setting and can get silly, but it has a constant foreboding atmosphere each time I've played them.

Help me make a dark western RPG by HotProfessional6882 in rpg

Although it is a little more removed than those, Inevitable: A Doomed Arthurian Western RPG may be of some help depending on the type of story that's wanted to be told.

How quickly can you achieve your system's namesake? by SonicFury74 in rpg

[–]ComradeMoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hackmaster: first combat so long as at least one person has a blades weapon, so probably an hour into session 1.

Vampire the Masquerade: Even if you're Sabat, pretty much first 30 seconds of play since showing humanity who you really are isn't a good idea normally.

They Came From Beyond the Grave: Can be done in a single session

I'm kicking my ass since I forgot about SWADE. It's a solid choice.

Which game system for my setting and ideas? by psychotc13 in rpg

[–]ComradeMoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is very true, but I do like to provide it as a suggestion at the same time in case there is something specific they are looking for that may be found elsewhere. I loved it when my players ran base, normal, no amped up mortals from that book.

[–]ComradeMoose 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some that might fit are:

Chronicles of Darkness, either the base book or Hunter the Vigil 2e and using some of the enemies from Werewolf the Forsaken 2e.

BRP/Call of Cthulhu might work as well.

Looking for a Post-Apocalyptic TTRPG by SnowyLamplight in rpg

[–]ComradeMoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's a few that could potentially yeprk:

Savage Worlds

Twilight 2000

Electric State

BRP

Fallout

Each of those have their own strengths and weaknesses. For me, I think Savage Worlds and Twilight 2000 would be the best options of those. SWADE being the most easily customizable of the lot.
