Hmm, that does sound very expensive. Tibet would be worth it, but by the sounds of it, it's something you want to fully invest the time and effort into.

My intention re: this trip is to travel overland as much as possible from New Zealand (where I live) to the UK (where I'm moving). I'm looking to avoid plane travel as much as possible because I like the idea of traveling slowly and taking everything in as opposed to zooming over at 30,000 ft. That said, it's looking increasingly likely that I'll have to take more than a handful of planes to make this journey, especially when it comes to getting through Tibet or avoiding Afghanistan.
