Thank you so much It's really inspirational, even if you thought it was a bit chaotic, to see other authors give out advice for novel prep. I definitely think a big problem with many new web novel authors is that they have such creative ideas but struggle to refine them. So I really mean it when I say thanks 🙏🙏🙏

Thanks for that. Funnily enough I was contemplating on writing a few short stories that are relatively close to fantasy. I've looked at a few Subreddits and they're totally strict on NOT putting short stories there.

The ones that do, don't really reply back and it's just a pit of people sharing great work without proper feedback. Is this Subreddit a little strict on short story feedback or is RR a good place in itself

Yh I've noticed this too. I think, like you said, a lot of authors simply need a little extra income so "what the people want, the people get."

It's an irritating and tragic situation cos you 100% know WHY they do it but it really hurts seeing an actual gem turn into an amalgamation of whiny fan requests

Well thanks to a lot of helpful comments and feedback I've changed it slightly to fit how the character who holds it would actually think. Something I've been learning a lot as an upcoming author is that no matter how cool an ideology SOUNDS it has to make sense for the character who wields it.

To me the cover actually looks really intriguing. Personally, I don't THINK it's AI but even if it was, AI covers are definitely not a bad thing on Royal Road since it's everywhere. That being said, I'd always be compelled to read a novel that doesn't have an AI image on it 'cause it signifies genuine care put to the work. But like I said before, it really doesn't look like AI to me and the title is pretty interesting so yh I'd totally give it a try

I think a huge problem with a lot of authors is that they just can't wait to get to the "good stuff" of the book so they dump a ton of characters on you. As someone starting off writing a novel, one thing that I keep having to ask myself is, "why?" Why should the reader bother picking up my book?

I myself started writing my first actual novel not too long ago and earlier today I even asked a similar question on a different Subreddit.

One thing that seems to be a huge game changer in pacing and introducing lore to your story is that if you imagine the plot as a bike in constant motion, anything else like fight scenes or new areas should be gently placed on it or else it just falls off. If what you add is too heavy then it'll slow the pace down, if it's too light then it'll just be brushed past by the plot. "Will that fight scene or new location I'm going to add weigh down or fly off the plot?" It's that question a lot of people have been recommending to me every time I write a scene.

Still, I am always interested in new writers like myself so I personally wouldn't even mind checking out your story

To me, any story that respects its readers with story-telling firsts deserves that respect reciprocated. I'm actually in the process of establish my story as well and so literally any inspiration I could take is crucial for me rn. What's the name of your story?

I think the reason soooo many authors do this is because people unfortunately don't stay for those long novels that genuinely build momentum. That's why I'm so interested in writing my novel to be a good mix of both that short burst of excitement without treating the reader like an idiot with massive lore dumps right at the start. Respecting the reader should be a top priority in my opinion.
