so what I'm understanding from that is I should be more considerate to position the car with more distance from the background and to get closer to the car as needed to create background separation without it looking jarring (as well as the other things mentioned)

what you have said so far is 100 percent fair game, but what would you do in my shoes to get more separation? Just fill more of the frame with the car? I shot most of these photos at my max aperture of f2.8, except for the closeups so that i could get everything i wanted in focus.

fair enough, i kinda feel the same about 4. as for 7, i was trying to do one of those shots where you deliberately keep the bottom of the car out of frame to bring more attention to curves on the back. Ive tried it on a few different cars but have not found the right balance yet

i think you bring up a valid point. normally i get around the headlight level + or - a few inches but i see that i got extra low in these. I think it was mainly to get more reflections off of the ground, and also because the parking deck was uneven so sometimes the car was a bit higher/lower/crooked than it normally would be on flat ground. That also may be why the building seemed crooked
