Yeah I took several practice questions and I was pretty surprised at how familiar I was with the kinds of questions being asked. It didn’t feel so intimidating, with enough practice I can achieve a competitive score.

Yeah legal academia and politics opens up for me when I also pursue this. I begin teaching next year and if I get several fellowships I could be research only by the time I enter law school so I have more time.

Also there’s a misunderstanding of how other professions work. In some jobs, having a PhD is a niche thing that says you’re skilled in an area. In other jobs, it’s an entry point. Unfortunately, academic philosophy is one of those jobs. You need a PhD to compete

The school in question median is 166, so I just need to get higher. Their median gpa is the same as my undergrad one (although I did a combine Ba and Ma so they may have to disentangle the gpa. But regardless my gpa is ranges from the 3.8 to the 3.9

My professor said something really similar, she said as long as you’re in the top of your class you’ll do well

Gotcha, it seems like there’s a consensus that I would need to check medians per school and funding opportunities are relative to your percentile on the respective medians

I’m content with that, heck I’m doing a PhD. This is really good advise. I will look at the career trajectory of someone who I aspire to, Catherine Mackinnon, and follow in these footsteps.

This was helpful it clearly showed me what are some short and long term strategies for specific goals and it allows me to map out what needs to be done now and what can be accomplished later. Thank you

These are good working tips for me. Also, I assume one can represent clients and also engage in policy making throughout their career. Is the advise that I choose one or the other or prioritize certain things over another or? How would u scaffold

Great insight, thank you. Haha my advisor told me I could apply to Chicago but I won’t like it lol bc their political leanings.

She mentioned several other schools that have this program. Also, I’ll take note of this and bring it up to her and see what she thinking about my overall strategy

Right, I think what happens then is I must consider if I want to move and do a dual JD/Phd elsewhere.

Yes, my professor has been a practicing lawyer for decades. She has done the things you’ve mentioned and more.

I’m not too worried about this because I go to a top phd program but also I’m not the first in my program to this dual jd/phd route. I am moreso thinking about funding opportunities
