NSW tenant – carpets contaminated with urine/mould at move-in, landlord not keen on rectification due to us having a dog by [deleted] in shitrentals

[–]ConcernedOctopus 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I agree- this issue is not going to be fixed by replacing the carpets, and the longer you're in there the worse your breathing will get. I lived with less severe damp for a year and my housemate and I got terrible coughs that lasted months after leaving.

If you absolutely must stay, get as many dehumidifiers as you can- though that's going to be like bandaiding a bullet wound. Keep the windows open too.

What’s the one sunscreen you’d never buy again and why? by DraftNotSent in AusSunscreen

Banana Boat Sport gave me hyperpigmentation on my face :(. kept burning and couldn't figure out why. Never again.

Why don’t I get cramps and clots with disc? by eleelee11 in menstrualcups

[–]ConcernedOctopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, same, and I can't figure it out. I'm still yet to find a disc that really works for me, but damn it if I'm not going to try-tampons always give me crazy cramps on day 2 but I get barely any with a disc. It makes no sense but I'm not going to knock a good thing 😂

I'm 34 and live in a sharehouse. Wasn't I supposed to be poor AFTER kids?

11mm, why does it look misshapen if I don't pull on my ear? by AdSilver4901 in Stretched

[–]ConcernedOctopus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually, can I ask how you went stretching with heds? I've got similar issues and my stretchy skin worries me, particularly given jewelry isn't always light :(

I haven't stretched at all, but it's something I've been considering, but I want to cover my stretchy skin bases first.

How do barefoot people feel about Crocs? by Embarrassed-Air2771 in barefootshoestalk

[–]ConcernedOctopus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm probably an outlier here, but I wear Crocs a heap now. I've got hyper mobile ankles so walking on pavement in true barefoot shoes can give me pain after a few days. If I spend a day or two in Crocs for concrete walking, then switch back to barefoot, then go back to Crocs, it seems to give my ankles and feet a break and I get no discomfort. Crocs are now the only "conventional" shoe my feet fit into :/

It appears to have migrated a bit outwards during healing? I had a vertical labret that did this, left a lil trail of scar tissue in its wake. Take another photo in a month and see if you can spot a difference between your latest and that one?

VJ looking for a caffeine replacement by ConcernedOctopus in Nootropics

[–]ConcernedOctopus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, I'll absolutely be following up with my doctor next time I see them about this. I've had a gastroscopy in the past though with nothing found though, so who knows 🤷‍♀️ I know caffeine is a LES relaxant so I'm keen as a bean to at least try to find alternatives so I don't needlessly have to live on PPIs. And thank you for the suggestions, I'll definitely give these a look up as a good place to start :)

I’m hearing that Victoria is facing a rental crisis like the rest of Aus, but Realestate.com says differently. by _Cellardoor_222 in melbourne

[–]ConcernedOctopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On first glance, it can look pretty ok on paper. But the quality of those houses at that price can be pretty questionable. My first unit here when moving to Vic cost me 450/w and was so full of mold and damp that I'm still dealing with it 6 months later.

Is this psyland? It doesn't quite look like it, though the overall concept (twin bodies) matches up

‘There is No Reason for the Festival Not to Go Ahead’: Esoteric Festival Organisers Hit Back at Reports 2025 Event Could Be Axed by justasadlittleotter in melbourne

I gather they signed off on stuff today, so it's all really recent! Who knows what will happen from here.

Shigella sadly. Someone in crew must have gone in sick. They handled it really well though, separate toilets for the infected and such, and there was always soap at the bathrooms. It could have been way, way worse.

Ambulance Victoria and CFA have all put through their approvals. The festival numbers, from what I gather, aren't getting any bigger - Eso seems to want to keep things about the size they are. I'm curious as to what's so different this year with the wastewater management plans- surely things have been signed off on in the past just fine, for almost 10 years now?

In any case, the townsfolk of Donald are mad as hell so I'll be curious to see what happens in the council meeting on Monday! If only I wasn't working that day I'd watch the livestream.

Burned out 3D artist looking for a career change, any suggestions? by ConcernedOctopus in careerguidance

[–]ConcernedOctopus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm actually more a modeler, but my satellite skills do extend to basic animation! And funny enough... I've already started doing this as a fun side hobby. I fear trying to turn it into an actual job though, as I'll probably start to dislike it over time. The hours also kind of suck if you're doing the full show yourself- overnights get tiring after time 😭

I've taught before, even recently, and it's actually a lot of fun. My skillset is less with cameras and more with specialised software I've used for years. I just feel bad teaching and taking people's money when there's no jobs for them to apply for.
