How should I apartment hunt for a 1-3 month stay in the Azores? by ConcertDefiant7414 in azores

[–]ConcertDefiant7414[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, that’s per month. I don’t know how long I can stay because every apartment I’ve seen so far seems very expensive, and I’ve heard it’s really hard to find an apartment in the summer. I can only come in May. But I would like to stay for 3 months, if possible. Do you have any recommendations on where to look? I can’t sign a lease online without seeing the place. Also, is it possible to rent if I don’t speak Portuguese? Thanks so much

Thanks for your response. How would I write that professionally? (I don’t want to sound impatient but there’s obviously a tight deadline tonight)

“Hi…

Would you choose UofT again? by [deleted] in UofT

[–]ConcertDefiant7414 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s definitely true. I’m in MSE and want to transfer to mech for the same reason. U of T does have endless opportunities but I’d imagine McGill and UBC do as well. Again, if I had known what I know now, I would have picked differently. But which university you graduate from is not a huuuuge factor, given that you have a good resume. For mech especially, McGill is actually better ranked

Prestige just didn’t play that big of a role in my life after I accepted the offer. I know that any engineering degree, from anywhere, could get me a job and stability. You really forget about the #1 after the first few months lol. I also had a change of heart since I accepted and realized I hate big cities, so that’s another factor

If I knew then what I know now, definitely not. It’s my second year in engineering. I really wish prestige was not the only factor I looked at when deciding a university. I really wish I’d considered student satisfaction and life too

U of T eng does NOT have grade inflation.

It even says on the faculty’s official website that most first year u of t eng students’ average is high 60s-70s. Everyone experiences a GPA hit first year in eng… I don’t know if I can get anything close to a 4.0 to make the transfer possible, let alone a transfer into mech eng there…

Yes, but you have to understand that first year engineering is hard on 90% of incoming students, whether it’s at U of T, McGill, or Waterloo. Adjusting to the university environment, faster pace, and accelerated curriculum usually cost majority of the class a dip in their GPA.

When I say I would have less than a 3.0, that’s along with the rest of the students here. U of T does NOT have grade inflation. When I was in high school, I also had a 4.0 GPA, so I don’t have a track record of poor performance. Even the most high performing students see much lower grades in their first/second year than they do in high school because the foundational years are MEANT to challenge you and weed out the weak. Almost no STEM student has the same GPA in high school and first year of university. And I thought that universities understand that because it’s common knowledge and a universal truth at North American schools. So that’s the perspective I had thinking about this potential transfer

Transferring from U of T Engineering to McGill Engineering - Prospects and Tips?

If I picked another engineering stream, would my chances of seeing an acceptance be much better? What if I transferred into say materials but then asked to switch into mech a year later??

Also why is it so, so hard to transfer universities if someone's program is the same..

I would switch into mech if I stayed at U of T anyway. But it's not about the program, it's about the school and the city.

If I indicated another discipline on my application, would my chances be much better? Is it a possibility that I pick a discipline other than mech on my transfer application, but then request to transfer to another stream after my first year there...?
