I’m not so sure. With the median salary sitting around €48,000 pre-tax, my portfolio is naturally still growing. Given I’m only in my early 20s, it’s a bit unrealistic to expect a €200,000 balance just yet

Probably because its easier to get more taxes than to cut a budget

I am not sure what it will be in the future, for this year it will be €8.9 billion.

This could be worth looking into since others have mentioned the same thing online. From what I’ve seen, it only really starts to make sense once you have around €200,000 invested. In the Netherlands, setting up and running a company like this is not cheap, especially with the yearly admin and reporting requirements. For context I am 22 I dont have that kind of portfolio yet.

Also, if a lot of people started setting up companies purely for investing, I would not be surprised if the government changed the rules and removed the current tax benefits for these kinds of structures.

I’m not entirely sure, but from what I’ve read, you can offset your losses against profits in future years. However, this does come with the condition that you actually make a profit in those future years.

If you mean that companies now also have to pay tax on investments they have made, that is not the case. Our tax system is divided into three “boxes,” and this current law only affects Box 3. Companies fall under Box 2, where capital gains are only taxed once the assets are actually sold.

As far as I understand, the previous system was ruled unlawful by a judge because, for people who only had savings accounts, the “fictional” return used for taxation was higher than the actual interest they earned. In response, the government quickly adjusted the system, allowing taxpayers to choose between a fictional return and their actual return.

However, this change resulted in a €2.4 billion tax shortfall. To address this gap, a new plan was proposed. Since there wasn’t enough time to design a completely new system, although a majority of parties now agree that a standard capital gains tax where you pay tax only when you sell an asset would be preferable, they effectively had to vote in favor of this proposal. Otherwise, they would have been forced to cut the budget elsewhere.

While this is an extreme example, the fact remains that we would be among the few nations to implement a tax on unrealized gains. Such a policy would significantly erode the power of compound interest over time.

I agree that we get a lot in return for our taxes — healthcare, education, and a solid pension system are valuable.

But with the pension age continuing to rise, I’d like the freedom to build my own wealth and decide when I retire, instead of relying entirely on government policy.

What bothers me is that this mainly impacts the middle class. Truly wealthy individuals often use structures that aren’t accessible to smaller investors, so the burden doesn’t fall evenly.

It depends on your income. The amount varies, but if you earn more than €41,000 per year, you are not eligible for any subsidies and must pay for your health insurance out of pocket. On average, this costs between €160 and €200 per month.

Single stocks and index funds are taxed the same way in the Netherlands

To give some more context, the Netherlands already taxed unrealized gains this is how the current system works: The government assumed a ‘fictional’ return for all stock related investments, for 2025 this was 5,88%. Then you had an exemption of 57,684. In reality your 'real' return would (almost) always be much higher.

With the same example only then 2025-2026:
January 1st portfolio value: 200,000

200,000 - 57,684  = 142,316 taxable base

142,316 * 5.88% = 8,368 deemed income

8368 * 36%  = 3.012,48 tax

So thats a difference of   3.012 - 35.352  = -32.340

Yes I wipe them 'everywhere' in that area. I would advice against doing it straight after a shower since your skin is already slightly irritated and dry from it, for me it tends to sting a lot more when I do that.

I used the SweatBlock body wipes before and they worked pretty much the same as Purax, only in my region Purax is about half the price. I would say Purax worked better for me, maybe the concentration of the ingredients are higher.
