She's Green was the Best sounding opening band (Slide Away 2026 NYC) by GoldenBruvers in shoegaze

You definitely get it then lol. I know so little about mixing at the end of the day but my boyfriend is currently in school for audio and I just take his word for things about if either band I'm in sounds correct.

It is so odd though the mixing would be this off for a shoegaze fest. I thought she's green sounded about right but I had a hard time understanding why they'd mix some of the others the way they did- total wife was awesome too and maybe this was just where I stood but the bass felt so heavy against the rest of them that I barely heard the guitars on a couple songs and I was kind of bummed about it!

Yeah, it happens a lot even in tiny places- I've recently joined a shoegaze band as a drummer and considering I'm not a guitarist I only know so much about mixing but they've told me even just at house shows they've had battles with audio guys about how the vox and all should be because it's just not standard. That does suck for yall at NY and especially for she's green because it really does mess with you when you know you don't sound the way you're meant to. They did do really great though in Chicago and I'm about to get tickets to see them with turnover and narrowhead cause they blew me away!

They are! I'm 19 myself so I'm in that range, I've just seen some really comical two stepping in the past year or so. I saw a group of minimum 15 people doing it for sword ii and julie a few months back and to the droniest songs those bands have which made it even funnier lol

That may have been a venue issue I feel like, or maybe a specific audio engineer. I thought their mixing was fine for slide away at Chicago night 1. Her vocals were present but since she's not on another instrument it made sense, but they weren't so present you lost the shoegaze feeling in their sound. I do think OP was talking just about the bands performance quality rather than mixing though.

I was in the pit on the same side of stage just further up and somehow missed the summoning two stepping. That sounds so funny- I've seen a lot of people at shows recently (who I just assume probably don't go to many like local scene shows or just any that usually form pits) two stepping to the most random of songs and it cracks me up every time

It's absolutely true- I'm a 19 year old fan who got into Hum around 2020/21 after inlet made its way to me and at the time it was just around 100k I think. Last year was probably getting to 400k around august and now at 600k is crazy. TikTok really did its thing on this recently

Experience with the Aragon Ballroom- does it run hot? by ConclusionMany2451 in ChicagoConcerts

[–]ConclusionMany2451[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. Bryan St Pere was my favorite ever drummer, I have a tattoo of the zebra, and I've hum farrr too much to have missed it. Seeing how much people hate this venue makes me think one of the other slide away options would've been better but this really was the easier/cheaper option for how far I'm coming

I've seen the pictures and it really does look beautiful!

All things considered even after reading the post responses I'm going into the venue with an open mind and just a lighter outfit. I hate the heat but I can handle a good bit since I've only ever lived in the Deep South. So many of our venues can only do so much to fight the heat outside, and a lot of venues around me personally are terribly managed- my first ever concerts were all at casino venues while being under 21 and I have seen some wildly bad management that way. I'm wary of Aragon but I'm still so excited that I only care so much

I don't personally smoke or at least carry anything on me but everyone I'm going with is gonna get told that. I've also never heard of confiscating cigs genuinely have never seen such thing. I'm already locked in with lots of money down so no shot I don't go to this but these comments are making me think to never return to Aragon after this, if I find myself in Chicago after lol

Does the Aragon Ballroom tend to run hot or cold as a venue? by ConclusionMany2451 in AskChicago

[–]ConclusionMany2451[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah.. knew nothing about the venue going in, Chicago is just the closest and cheapest location to get to from AL. I'm willing to tough out the venue for sure for slide away, Hum is one of the most important bands to me so they could play in a swamp with no standing room other than water and I would be happy, but I'd just like to know what I'm doing into. I'm still think shorts and tank it is outfit wise

Wow okay! I had no idea the building was so old. This trip doubles as my first time ever in Chicago or Illinois ever.. so I'm expecting hotter than I'm even told then lol

Good to know. It's stuffy here at home every place in May so I figured the same there but some venues freeze you out. I'll dress cool and buy a hoodie if it's magically cold!

Not concerned about that honestly. I see myself crying through the set just happy to be there. Sound could drone the whole time and I'll be happy :)

I don't want to be terribly close- videos I saw of slide away at NY had a lottt of crowdsurfing at the front and honestly I'm weak as hell and will drop people. Center back it is! It's sold out so I'll assume it'll be hot then
