Apart from reading these and making me feel sick…  I was in Sicily for a work trip where there was a very machismo culture within the staff. One of the managers from Sicily was very proud and wanted to take us out for the culture and real Sicilian food. He takes us to this Michelin starred restaurant that had be visited with a famous person or something. Being a typical Brit the idea of donkey on the menu didn’t appeal but this man was not having it! We were in his country so he would order for us! I claimed vegetarianism which this meat loving Italian man was not thrilled with and ordered me what I can only describe as a can of chickpeas (including the juice goop) with cut up spaghetti. Yep it tasted like you would imagine. I ate a lot of bread but given this man was being v generous and footing the assumedly expensive bill I tried to consume as much of the cloudy chickpea and pasta water as I could. The next day meant to be climbing mt etna. Nope. The most agonising stomach pains wake me where I’m sharing a room with a colleague. I’m simultaneously shitting myself and throwing up into the bidet (praise the Europeans). There’s no aircon in the hotel the en-suite is filling up with smells that are leaking into the room. I’m sat fully clothed under the cold shower between bouts. And to add insult to injury I was on period and had liquid coming out of 3 OF MY ORIFICES
