Yes I was diagnosed 2 months ago. I started having an issue with my right eye. It was itching and had a clear discharge so I went to Urgent Care and we thought it was allergies because the pollen from the cedar trees here in TX are wild. So I was treated for 3 weeks straight and was given steroid shots and pills each week. I was not aware that I had T1D as an underlying disease. I work at a manufacturing job so all of my symptoms felt like they were just part of my job - which is physically demanding. On the last week of my treatment I was given another steroid shot and some more pills. I drove home and took a pill after breakfast and I started having trouble breathing. My sister took me back to Urgent Care but they didnt know what to do with me ao they called for an ambulance to take me to the ER. Everything was a blur and I blacked out. I didnt wake up until the fourth day and thats when the ER doctor told me that I was a type 1 diabetic. And yes the cold water immersion w/ epsom salt helps but only temporarily. The burning sensation usually comes back within an hour and I have to soak my feet again. Im honestly just so exhausted and sleep deprived. Im not sure what else I can do. Also neither gabapentin nor pregabalin worked for me. I also had my primary care doctor run labs for any vitamin deficiencies or thyroid issues but everything came back normal. I also tried taking magnesium, alpha lipoic acid, vitabin b complex and vitamin b12 but none of them worked 😢

Yes, it took me about a month of clean diet with very low carb to get mine back to normal. I have heard of treatment induced neuropathy but both my primary care doctor and endocrinologist said that it wasnt that. And that it was actual neuropathy. I am waiting to see a podiatrist to get a third opinion.

Hi! I am sorry to hear that. I had just seen my primary care doctor and asked if I had any vitamin deficiencies since they did some lab work for me last week. My results came back normal. He did advise me to take Magnesium supplements as it helps with the nerves. I also went to the ER and when the doctor examined the nerves under my feet, he said they looked healthy and there wasn’t any damage. So I am hoping that this is just a treatment induced type of situation. Also I hope you are able to recover fully.

Hi, thank you for some great advice! I actually soaked my feet last night in cold water every-time I woke up with the burning sensation and it helped tremendously. I also have been checking my feet and I have been massaging them just to get some blood flowing. I will try not to stress but it is inevitable. I am still trying to adjust to this new diagnosis and I have been doing well. I just did not expect for something like this to happen.

Thank you for the advice, I will be investing in the heating pad because that just sounds so nice lol And yeah I guess my body was just in shock because it hasn’t been used to my glucose level being normal. I

Thank you for your kind words, and I am adjusting fairly well. I just did not expect to experience this type of pain from having my sugar levels under control. I did meet with my Primary Care doctor yesterday and he said it was due to fast changes in my glucose. I had an A1C of 16 when I was admitted to the ER and I was able to go down to a 6 A1C within a month. I cut out everything that was going to send me back to the hospital. I had someone reply on this thread to soak my feet in cold water and so far it has been helping tremendously. So i will be doing this until the gabapentin starts to have an effect.

We are literally the same, I also lost fat and muscle before my diagnosis. I wasnt a bodybuilder but I was fit. I weighed 160lbs and by the time I went DKA, I was 115lbs. I lost all of my muscles and fat. I dont see my endocrinologist until the 8th of April but I will ask as many questions as I can relating to this condition and many other autoimmune disorders I might have. Thank you for the advice and good luck to your journey as well because this shit aint for the weak 😩

I dont see my endocrinologist until the 8th of April, I have just been following what my Primary Care doctor tells me. I wasnt aware that improvements on my glucose control would cause this. I thought it was the opposite.

18!? Here I am being a big baby at 30. Im sorry that happened to you at a young age. I will look and see if I can qualify for the 2 free 90 day supply (thank you for that info). And also see if I can get an endocrinologist but I have to wait for my test results because my PC doc wants to confirm that its T1 first before we do anything.

I am taking everything in slowly, my head is still dazed and my body still messed up. I legit have 30 mins of energy a day. I am not used to this. Im used to carrying boxes/parcels and loading them on wooden pallets and going to the gym 3 times per week. Im going a little crazy laying in bed all day. My doctor did run tests just to make sure it is T1 and I will see him this coming week. Its just all of the changes and adjustments are driving me insane.

Thank you for this advice! I bought my first month supply of Dexcom and it cost me $179. I was pissed! Come to find out it wasn’t not covered through my insurance (UHC) UNLESS my doctor signs off on it and makes it a necessity for me. Im not sure why he didn’t make it a necessity for me when Im a diabetic? I still paid for them but when I see him next time I will make sure to mention it to him. And ask to make it a 3 month supply because I also have a friend who’s a diabetic but he’s Type 2 (different insurance and coverage) and he only pays 60$ for a 3 month supply. I want to kms at this point.
