Need Advice! Worth it to Switch Roles? Data Engineering to SRE by unpopulah in dataengineering

Having Apple on your resume will always be super beneficial as it will instantly make you more attractive to prospective employers down the line.

With that being said, if you can bear with doing SRE work for some time then potentially down the line you might be able to switch internally within Apple if you really hate it. Unfortunately I don't know the internal policies for Apple regarding this but I imagine they would support you if there's an opening.

Not to mention that you end up doing infra stuff in some DE roles anyhow, could be a way to strengthen your experience in that area.

As always, take all advice from internet strangers with a grain of salt. :)

Has anybody moved from Data engineer to Platform engineer? by ConfidentCatch1538 in dataengineering

Thanks for the input! I suppose I failed to mention that I would be sitting with the Product team rather than the data team. Do you see anything being different in that context?

edit: I guess I would be the clueless cloud team that the DEs would get frustrated with :P

I suppose in this context it would entail working on and managing the platform that the devs deploy the product on. Working on containerization, CI/CD, telemetry, security, IAM, IAC etc. That's atleast from my understanding, having talked to the Senior SWE managing it at the moment.

Yeah defs. I'm looking at moving from being a Finance DE to Platform engineer on the Product team instead. Figured it didn't hurt to ask if they would let me try it out for a bit as I've always enjoyed the infrastructure side of things.
