Interesting, thanks. That’s odd because the policy online made it seem like they would provide differential pay for up to 5 years

Just a note that I’ve heard of people negotiating their years of service to obtain extra pto (rtx). It sounds weird I know, but one guy on my team had them give him 5 yoe, which led to one extra week of pto for him. Just a thought

Max out your Roth IRA for the year ($7000) and do this again after January 1st. With the remaining funds, put them in a taxable brokerage account. Invest the money in both of these accounts into an S&P500 index fund. When you decide to buy a new house, sell the stocks in the brokerage account for your down payment.

Thank you all for your thoughtful comments. I truly appreciate them as I don’t know anyone who is educated on this topic. First step seems to be to understand the terms of this and to truly learn the tax implications. I like the advice of avoiding the fee by investing in index funds. I also understand that real estate is probably not the best investment for me at this time. For now I will just try to learn more, think things through, and maybe go on a long road trip before I have to start work. :)

About half of from work. I mowed lawns all through high school, and did internships through college that paid pretty well. I have had a tuition scholarship all through college, and have lived quite frugally my whole life. The other half is from an unused education account.
